Hillary Clinton Pulling a Mike Huckabee?

Remember when Mike Huckabee refused to drop out of the GOP race until John McCain had officially won the nomination? Even though it was literally impossible that Mike Huckabee would win the GOP nomination, he stayed in. Now Hillary Clinton's advisor's are suggesting the same thing - that she will stay in until June 3rd (or longer) when Obama will have enough delegates to officially be the Democratic nominee.  This, despite the fact that it has been mathematically impossible for Clinton to win the nomination for months now.

It's over Hillary - don't force Barack Obama to waste tens of millions winning a nomination he's already won. At the very least, hold back your (very) negative attacks!

PS: Virginia has 6 undeclared superdelegates (Richard Cranwell, Alexis Herman, Joe Johnson, Jim Leaman, Jerome Wiley Segovia, Jim Webb). If you have a relationship with any of them, make sure to send on this petition.

Let's focus on other things (tx2vadem - 5/7/2008 3:35:12 PM)
And leave Hillary Clinton be.  She will come to her own decision in her own time.  Recognizing what she must do is difficult enough without everyone shouting their unsolicited advice at her.  Have some sympathy for what she must be going through and leave her be.

She will make her own choice for good or ill.  And at that time everyone will feel free to judge her entire life on that one event.  Won't that satiate the masses?  So, why not just wait until then to decry her foolishness, her stubbornness, or whatever attribute you wish to crucify her on?

As to the Superdelegates, they are adults and from what I know fairly intelligent ones.  They don't need my advice on what they should do.  Nor have they asked for it.

Jennifer McClellan moves to Obama (Shawn - 5/7/2008 3:42:09 PM)
According to this story the DPVA's Jennifer McClellan the 1st Vice Chair, for Organization is now supporting Barack Obama for President.  Send along your thanks for making a tough decision that benefits our party and our future ... her email is   Jennifer.l.mcclellan@verizon.com

Yay Jennifer! (proudvadem - 5/7/2008 4:00:57 PM)
This is GREAT news!!

Thank you! (Lowell - 5/7/2008 4:11:21 PM)
Great decision, I hope the other Virginia superdelegates will follow your lead!

I hate to pile on... (ericy - 5/7/2008 4:20:09 PM)

But I saw this today.  Only people who are web literate will get the joke...

I don't want to seem inconsistent (aznew - 5/7/2008 4:28:51 PM)
because I have made clear that I don't think Hillary can win, but this statement:

it has been mathematically impossible for Clinton to win the nomination for months now.

is simply false.

In fact, until one candidate or the other has a majority of all delegates, it is mathematically possible for the other to win.

One can argue that a win, in light of last night's results, is not highly unlikely.

As for the time frame of many months, I think it is fair to state that Hillary still had a shot until yesterday's primaries.

True... (ericy - 5/7/2008 4:39:24 PM)

The odds keep getting longer and longer, but it was never impossible.

With Huckabee... (ericy - 5/7/2008 4:38:30 PM)

he was never a credible threat to McCain.  And Huckabee was always playing nice, so he was never a problem to McCain.

Hillary did have a credible path to the nomination for quite a while.  And she still has a lot of delegates - just not quite enough.

Jim Webb (Alter of Freedom - 5/7/2008 4:42:25 PM)
In supporting Jim Webb and campaigning for Webb amongst a very Republican entrenched area some two years ago...my time flies...I cannot help but wonder if his lack of action on his determination of support is geared somehow to the VP slot.
I only say this because Webb is very principled and would have I think voiced his determination already if he was not behind closed doors being courted by both camps.
I do have some concern for the criticism being laid at people (superdelegates) that is who are endorsing Clinton but reside in states where she lost. Obama won Virginia rather handily so I wonder just why there has not been more criticism levied on Webb and the others whom have not endorsed Obama given the fact he won Virginia.
I can't help but wonder of course if it is not "politics" or at least "hedging bets" going on and frankly that is just not like Jim at all. Is Washingtonian politics beginning to chip away at our Senator?

I think Clinton should stay in the race until... (snolan - 5/7/2008 6:19:55 PM)
all the primaries are done or enough supers commit to get someone over the 2024.5 number.

I am an avid Obama supporter, and I do NOT want Clinton to be his running mate, but to end this race soon means we lose the registration drives and we exclude a few states that rarely get consulted in a Primary from doing anything useful.  Much better to stay in until the supers get off their butts or enough pledged take someone over the line, or all the primaries are done.

I'll join you in calls for her to drop out on June 4th (if it is still a race then) after all the primaries are done.
