*Roanoke has a new mayor, David Bowers (I), who defeated the incumbent, Nelson Harris (D).

*In Herndon, incumbent Steve DeBenedittis (I) defeated J. Harlon Reece  (I) 52.43%-37.53% for Mayor.  The Washington Post says, "Herndon voters reaffirmed their support yesterday for a mayor and Town Council that garnered national attention for closing down a job center for day laborers, saying it had become a magnet for illegal immigrants."

*In Fairfax City, Robert F. Lederer (I) was elected Mayor with 69.96% of the vote.

Interesting... (Eric - 5/6/2008 10:30:22 PM)
There are a lot of I's winning.  Is that possibly an indicator of voters taking a middle of the road attitude?  Is Mark Warner onto something hot with his centrist (a pseudo "I") approach?

Very few elections tonight have parties (Ben - 5/6/2008 11:15:57 PM)
But DeBenedittis and Lederer are Republicans.

Good for David Bowers- who was a former Democratic Mayor, and thrown out of the party in a coup this winter by Delegate Onzlee Ware.  Looks like Ware lost the Dems the Mayor's office with his crap.

My pick lost (elevandoski - 5/6/2008 10:42:15 PM)
My pick for Chesapeake Mayor (Rebecca Adams) lost.  Boo!

Tomzak won in Fredericksburg (FxbAmy - 5/7/2008 1:00:47 AM)
The incumbent Mayor won a decisive victory. All local offices in Fredericksburg are independent, but I was pleased to endorse Tom Tomzak and am thrilled that he won.
