Lowell and RK Should Condemn Not Larry Sabato Blog

I ventured over to Not Larry Sabato and was disgusted by what's going on there. Ben is posting a 40+ part series on why Gerry Connolly sucks. Now while many people don't like Connolly and while I'm not 100 percent in his corner, this "series" is beyond the pale.

Most of the entries are attacks and most have said nothing useful. Most are based on Ben's personal hatred toward Gerry. None have covered an issue that's relevant to voters.

Lowell, as a Obama supporter, you should decry such attacks like this. I'm an Obama supporter and it's not in line with how decent campaigns should be waged. We know Leslie Byrne reads that blog because she reads this one and, if I'm not mistaken, she has posted here a couple of times. We know Ben used to work for Leslie, so it's not hard to see she knows what's going on. It's disgraceful that she doesn't stop the attacks or ask Ben to stop -- or perhaps it's all by design.

In any case, it's now how a campaign should be run, it's not about any issues, no compelling reasons to vote for Leslie have been offered on that blog. Of course, it's his blog and you have you have yours. But I ask you, a person many of us have some respect for because you run a good blog that covers actual issues, to denounce what's been happening over on Not Larry Sabato. What are your thoughts on all of these "Gerry Sucks" entries? Why do we have to know about entries such as Gerry shopping at a local store for clothes? Or all sorts of other irrelevant things?

Obama people are better than this. You can't have it both ways to support Obama and his vision and ideals, but then stay silent while a nasty campaign -- against a fellow Democrat nonetheless -- is being waged using old style politics that people are sick of. It's insulting to people's intelligence.

We know you're a Leslie supporter and that's great. But how can you possibly support what's going on over there? How does that help her?

I must concur (jjbman1121 - 5/6/2008 4:48:13 PM)
Ben has really lost it recently. His nonsensical ranting about Gerry are really pretty thin (although a couple have raised very legitimate points). What did it for me was his post today trying to claim that the reason Fairfax police make less than firefighters is because Gerry got charged in that idiotic "hit and run" incident. In reality, firefighters make more than cops throughout the region, mostly by the same difference as in Fairfax.

I really think Ben's antics are starting to hurt Leslie.

Seriously chill. The posts are annoying but some are actually pretty interesting. If you don't like it, don't read it. This isn't 2nd grade where you try to gang up on people you don't like. The primary for the 11th district is turning into an extremely lively race. As a voter in that district, I feel that it is my prerogative to have access to all sorts of view points, even if they happen to be extremely negative ones.

That's just NLS being NLS (TheGreenMiles - 5/7/2008 4:53:19 PM)
NLS walks the line on Connolly. But NLS walks the line on everything. That's his style. If he stumbled the line Nick Nolte style, he wouldn't have made it this far.

I'd agree with GeorgetownStudent, but with a twist - if you don't like it, blog it. Post diaries here pointing out what you see as inaccuracies. If you keep doin' it and doin' it and doin' it well, you'll bring the credibility of NLS into question.

But unless you have a specific case for libel, the "I'm offended and outraged and this must be condemned" game becomes a vicious circle.
