You can visit Harlon's website to read about this retired Marine who is trying to change Herndon's position on immigrants among other things.

I had some local help with the rest of this posting, since I am not from Herndon:

In addition to a new Mayor in Harlon Reece, the people of Herndon also need to some moderate voices on the the Town Council.  That's why
Neighbors in Support of Herndon is endorsing Richard Downer, Penny Halpern, Arthur Nachman, and Sheila Olem.   The current Town Council has prolonged Day Laborers site controversy and prolonged the division plaguing the community during its 2-year term by proposing ineffective
and polarizing legislation, forcing the town to battle over whether to make English the official language of Herndon when it's already the
official language of the state of Virginia.  Other needless and polarizing resolutions proposed by this gang that rode anti-immigrant
fear into office: restrict  business licenses to those who can prove legal status, when most businesses are owned by partnerships and LLC's, not people, so the question of legal status cannot be applied. The current town council has acknowledge that these ideas are ineffective and ill-conceived from a policy standpoint, but they have justified the inane measures as meant to "send a message."  Well, the message was received loud and clear.  Certain people are less welcome
than others.  But what the people of Herndon are proving is that this sentiment is not as pervasive as the current town council would have us believe.  Let's hope the people of Herndon are successful in
turning out these political opportunists, and turning the page on an unfortunate chapter in the town's history.  When history is written, it will be this particular town council, and not the people of Herndon, who are associated with the rash of intolerance and ethnic tension that has given Herndon such bad press in recent years.
