Fredericksburg Mayoral Election Tuesday

Tomzak for MayorOn Tuesday, voters in the city of Fredericksburg will decide whether or not Mayor Tom Tomzak deserves another 4 years, or if fellow city council member Debby Girvan should replace him. Both are running as Independents but are essentially Democrats, and there's not a huge amount of difference between the two on issues. The one exception that's been on the forefront is Girvan's criticism of the deal that Mayor Tomzak and the city council made in bringing a new resort/convention center to the region. But Mrs. Girvan didn't have a lot to say on the subject back when this was being negotiated. It's kind of like Hillary Clinton and NAFTA; we're just going to have to take her word for it that she was against it at the time.

Girvan for MayorFour years ago, when Tomzak and Girvan ran for mayor and council member-at-large respectively, they were both supportive of each others candidacy. What you really take away from this race, is that it's being contested by two people who no longer like each other, not between two people who disagree with each other. And since not a single member of the Fredericksburg city council has endorsed Debby Girvan over Mayor Tomzak, I don't see how you can make a legitimate case that he should be replaced. It's not an endorsement, since I don't live in the city of Fredericksburg, just my two cents. Click here for more on the race.

Thanks for the post Chris.  Because I do live in the city of Fredericksburg I know this a very important election.  My endorsement of Tom Tomzak was covered on Fred2Blue here.
