LA Dems scored a HUGE upset today, winning a congressional seat in a special election that was held by the GOP for 33 years.

Democratic candidate Don Cazayoux defeated Republican "Woody" Jenkins in the race for U.S. Representative from the 6th Congressional District.  Jenkins was a favorite of the Christian-right and had been elected to the state legislature for 28 years.

An independent candidate, Casey Ashley, won 3.68% of the vote, more than the winning margin.

Here are the final results:

A large number of Katrina refugees have settled in Baton Rougue, the largest city in this CD and you have to wonder if those displaced residents provided the margin for the Democratic candidate in this race.
