Kentucky Derby Picks

After spending some time in Louisville last week, including a trip my son put together to Churchill Downs, I'm ready to offer my pick for the Kentucky Derby winner ... Bistro 301

Seriously, Big Brown is one of the finest equine athletes I've ever seen and is my pick to win the Derby and the Triple Crown. The other two horses I like are Court Vision and Recapture the Glory. So those are my picks to finish first, second, and third in today's race.

Well, I hope you didn't bet much money on your horses because none of them finished in the top three.

Big Brown was the winner.

Eight Belles placed second.

Dennis of Cork placed third.

Eight Belles may sound familiar to you.  As the only philly in the race, Hillary Clinton made public announcements that she was her pick and requested her supporters to place a bet on the phiily.  Apparently Chelsea was attendging the derby and was placing a bet for Hil on Eight Bellies.

A strong second place showing turned to tragedy Saturday as Eight Bellies was euthanized on the track, after falling and breaking both front ankles.

I never bet "too much" and I more than covered the $18 I put on the race because I bet $2 on Big Brown to win/place/show

"Big Brown is one of the finest equine athletes I've ever seen and is my pick to win the Derby and the Triple Crown."

I was also happy with "Recapture the Glory" who finished a respectable 5th in a 20 horse race.
