Marshall: I got elected - why the hell should I back off?

With the resounding defeat of reactionary conservatives Jerry W. Kilgore, Dick Black and Brad Marrs in the 2005 election, common sense might dictate that Virginians are sick and tired of the radical agenda of the far-right.

As the Associated Press reports, to some, common sense has no place in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Not all out-of-the-mainstream conservatives were removed from office, and those remaining are coming to this year's legislative session loaded for bear.

[...] Bob Marshall, R-Prince William. Marshall has sponsored a raft of anti-abortion bills, and he said his campaign brochures plainly stated that he opposes same-sex marriage.

"I got elected - why the hell should I back off?" Marshall said during a recent panel discussion before journalists at the fourth annual AP Day at the Capital.

Among the "Divide and Weaken" Initiatives of the Reactionary Right for this year:

1.  Gay Hate:  An unnecessary Constitutional Ammendment to ban gay marriage, despite the fact that gay marriage is already illegal in Virginia.
2.  Gay Hate:  A fight to allow sexual discrimination against homosexuals despite Governor Warner's budget provision banning it.

Here we go again.  Another year, another chance for the forces of hate and ignorance to distract the legislature from getting results that count.
