Caps are the Comeback Kids

Are the Washington Capitals the "comeback kids" or what? Here's what happened last night in Philadelphia.

All season, the Washington Capitals have been counted out. It happened when they started out 6-14-1. It happened when Philadelphia took a three games to one lead in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals last week, and again when the Flyers pushed them to the edge of extinction in Game 6.

Each time, though, Alex Ovechkin and his teammates have stunned their doubters -- and Monday night was no exception. The Capitals scored four straight goals -- Ovechkin notched two of them in the third period -- to win 4-2 and force a seventh and decisive game in this Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.

[...]

Tuesday night at Verizon Center, the Capitals will play the sixth Game 7 in franchise history and attempt to become only the 21st team in the history of the National Hockey League to come all the way back from a three-games-to-one deficit...

So, not only is there some primary going on tonight involving Philadelphia (and a few other places in Pennsylvania), there's also going to be a Game 7 showdown between the Washington Capitals and the Philadelphia Flyers.  Not to compare the importance of a hockey game to the primary in Pennsylvania, of course - we all know the hockey game is much more important!  Ha, just kidding.  I think. :)  Go Caps!

You had to like Tim Russert ending Meet the Press on Sunday by holding up a caps jersey and saying "Go Capitals."

The Caps Game Seven in my mind is more important to me than the results out of PA which will be spun to high heaven by both sides. I find there to be very little drama in the PA Primary to be played out today, the drama will begin after the polls close and into tomorrow. So lets bring on the Flyers for Game Seven. Forget the Sea of Change for one Night and let it be a SEA Of RED (Caps red that is!!!!!)

I tend to agree. (Lowell - 4/22/2008 5:22:00 PM)
Go Caps! :)

Caps (South County - 4/22/2008 5:53:26 PM)
Ovechkin another great game last night.  I really think this playoff run is just the beginning for the Caps.  They have four great young guys (Ovechkin, Semin, Backstrom, and Green) who, if they stay healthy, have a really bright future coming of age at the same time.  Go Caps!

Couldn't Agree More (Barbara - 4/22/2008 6:50:47 PM)
I'll take Ovechkin over Wolf Blitzer anyday.  I'm fired up (and wearing red). I'll check in with Wolf between periods.  GO CAPS!!!!

Two bad calls and its over (Alter of Freedom - 4/23/2008 12:28:38 AM)
Saddening the Caps came up short tonight but not really through their efforts. A no call of interference of the worst kind which resulted in Huet being clearly knocked away from the crease created an easy chance for the Flyers to draw even at 2 and then in OT a penalty call for tripping, which almost in OT is never called, at roughly midice with nothing really happening resulted in the Flyers scoring its second power play goal of the night and taking the victory.
Between the calls tonight and that blatantly ridiculous call in the Rockets / Jazz game last night I have had enough of both referees and political pundits for awhile.

The game was stolen by the refs (humanfont - 4/23/2008 5:31:05 AM)
The head office in Toronto should send an appologise to the caps fans.  That was terrible officiating.

I expect the Caps (Lowell - 4/23/2008 7:34:28 AM)
to go much further next year.  This is a great, young team with a bright future ahead of it.  Congratulations on an excellent season to Bruce Boudreau and the entire team!
