Mark Warner's "Shad Planking" Sign and Speech Successes!

Good morning, Democrats!  I'm pleased to report that former Virginia Governor Mark Warner's dozens of volunteers did a tremendous job of putting up thousands of his U. S. Senate campaign signs along the route to yesterday's (Wednesday, April 16) "60th Annual Shad Planking" event in Wakefield, Virginia.  As in Jim Webb's campaign in 2006, Warner's campaign signs outnumbered his opponent's signs by a huge number again this year.

My friends and I - representing the Roanoke County Democratic Committee - certainly enjoyed the four-hour drive to and from Wakefield in perfect weather.  We had an excellent lunch at the Virginia Diner and were glad to meet up with a number of old friends while making several new ones and, most importantly, having a chance to see Mark Warner vs. his two Republican rivals on the stage together.  It was no contest!

Many thanks to DPV Tidewater Area Regional Director Susan Mariner for all her hard work and for helping us to secure Mark Warner for U. S. Senate campaign t-shirts.  It was great to see Susan again and to talk with Levar Stoney and Courtney Dozier there as well.

On our way home, we picked up a number of Warner's yard signs and larger 4X8 signs for future use here in the Roanoke Valley.

I have no doubt that Mark Warner will be elected Virginia's next U. S. Senator in November...

Thanks!

Steve

Can you give us an account (Lowell - 4/17/2008 8:28:46 AM)
of what I hear was a typically nasty speech by Jim Gilmore, and also how Mark Warner kicked his ass responded?  Thanks.

Signs, Speeches, Etc. (cycle12 - 4/17/2008 9:09:52 AM)
Thanks, Lowell; Mark spoke first and did a great job of hitting on major issues utilizing his typical gentlemanly grace, style and humor.  In comparison to his "Mark not John" campaign of 1996, Warner displayed a new prototype bumper sticker for use against his two Republican opponents entitled "Mark Not JimBob".  Mark made note of how strong must be John Hager's loyalty to the Republican Party since John was allowing his son to marry a Bush daughter while "W" is currently "enjoying" a 28% approval rating...

Next came "Sideshow Bob" Marshall and, having never seen him before, I now understand how he earned his nickname.  Amongst other guffaws and odd/strange comments, "Sideshow" assured everyone that, in these days of gay marriage, etc., his wife is a woman.

Then "Sideshow" talked about how the so-called marriage amendment received more votes state-wide than did Jim Webb in 2006, but he conveniently forgot to mention that Webb received more votes than our former incumbent Republican U. S. Senator.  Funny how that campaign turned out...

We needed to leave there early in order to retrieve Warner campaign signs from the roadside, beat the traffic jam out of the immediate area and then make the four-hour drive back home, so we did not stay for the Gilmore speech.  No big loss there.

Later in the evening, I talked via cell phone with a Norfolk friend of mine who had been there, and he mentioned Gilmore's negative speech but didn't give me any specifics.  If/when available, I will report back here with more information, any photos, etc.

Also, I suspect that the incomparable Susan Mariner can add much to what I have reported here thus far.

Thanks!

Thanks Steve, I'd love to hear (Lowell - 4/17/2008 9:11:54 AM)
Susan's report and others by people who were there. Photos (and audio or video if available) are also most welcome! :)

Also, any photos? (Lowell - 4/17/2008 8:29:13 AM)
If so, I'd love to see them.  Thanks!
