According to the DPVA, "as of 5:00 pm today (Friday, April 11, 2008) the following candidates filed official papers for the November 4, 2008 elections."  In addition, DPVA Executive Director Levar Stoney has informed me that this list is specifically about those who filed for primary elections in June, NOT those who will be selected by conventions (e.g., Tom Perriello and Sam Rasoul).

I was wondering about this (Ron1 - 4/11/2008 9:16:57 PM)
So, I'm assuming that the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 9th nominate via convetion rather than primary? Is there a document that explains this? I looked around the DPVA website and found the party rules, but not a listing of which districts nominate via primary versus caucus.

If anyone has a good link that sheds light on all this, I'd appreciate the help.

5th and 6th are definitely conventions (Lowell - 4/11/2008 9:23:46 PM)
Not sure about the others, but I'm 99.99999999999999999% sure that Rick Boucher's on the ballot in the 9th. :)

You are correct, sir (Ron1 - 4/11/2008 9:47:59 PM)
Virginia SBE Release

4th-6th and 9th apparently by convention/caucus/whathaveyou. I guess this means there won't be a Democrat running in the 1st, or that 1st District Dems will have to fill the slot in some other capacity.

The 1st (Susan Mariner - 4/12/2008 2:20:14 AM)
They are also going to nominate by convention.

Good to know (Ron1 - 4/12/2008 12:15:16 PM)
Thanks.

So . . . no Senate primary? (Cliff Garstang - 4/12/2008 8:00:24 AM)
Does this mean that Julien Modica didn't get the needed signatures? And does that mean no Senate Primary?

Yes, exactly. (Randy Klear - 4/12/2008 9:04:25 AM)
And there will be no primaries in the 2nd, 3rd and 7th, either. This is especially good news for Glenn Nye, who can concentrate on raising money rather than spending it, and keep his message focused on Thelma Drake, where it belongs.

Julien Modica did get the signatures...? (emmo - 10/16/2008 9:06:12 AM)
I did get the needed signatures and was literally working up until the very last minute to get the proper certification on each signature sheet. My campaign assistant and I left Reston, Virginia at 12:00PM on April 11th.
At 3:30PM we were on Route 95 at the Fredericksburg exit with bumper to bumper traffic continuing south. I was on the phone with the DPVA the entire way and around 4:00PM it became clear the signatures would not reach their destination by 5:00PM
Sorry for not explaining this earlier, but you can imagine my disappointment and the disappointment of my campaign staff.
Thanks!!!!
Julien Modica

7th Congressional District (jhaboyd - 4/13/2008 8:37:15 PM)
Anita R. Hartke is the sole candidate to file to run against Eric Cantor. Therefore, she is the Nominee for the Democratic Party as are Congressman Bobby Scott in the 3rd District and Glenn Nye in the 2nd District.

Julien Modica maybe running as an independent. Who knows but Julien.

Let work to get them all elected.
