Free Lance Star: Let's just ordain McDonnell!

Recently the Free Lance Star ran a front page article suggesting that Republicans will get a huge boost from having their ticket locked up early.

I would argue that Virginia history doesn't back up that hypothesis at all.
In 1993, the top of the Democratic ticket was just like the 2009 Republican ticket- Lieutenant Governor Don Beyer stepped aside and ran for re-election so Attorney General Mary Sue Terry would be the default Democratic nominee for Governor. Terry was far more popular than McDonnell ever was, in fact, she got more votes in 1989 than anyone in state history (while McDonnell's landslide of 360 votes was the smallest margin in state history)! Republicans didn't nominate candidates until very late in the process (at their convention in June 93). When they finally nominated George Allen, he was a full 23 points behind Democrat Mary Sue Terry in the polls. In the end, though, Allen garnered almost 58% of the vote to be elected Governor.

Creigh and Brian are both honest, clean, and compelling candidates. Either could and will beat  Bob "RegentU!" McDonnell.

A definite winning strategy (Va Blogger2 - 4/9/2008 12:02:36 PM)
Would seem to be dissing Regent University at every turn.

We have various other nicknames (Lowell - 4/9/2008 12:48:19 PM)
for Bob McDonnell if you'd prefer.  Something tells me you won't like those much better, though, than poking fun at his fourth-tier (if that) "law school."

If you think (Va Blogger2 - 4/9/2008 1:21:42 PM)
that ridiculing a school based in Virginia Beach is the best way to ingratiate yourself to Virginian voters, then I encourage the Democratic Party to knock themselves out trying it.

First... I think VA AG going to a non-accredited Law School is an issue (James Martin - 4/9/2008 1:50:51 PM)
Second- Thanks for the suggestion on nicknames- I actually like "Taliban Bob" McDonnell better :)

Or do you prefer (Lowell - 4/9/2008 1:54:01 PM)
"Sodomy Bob," as in:

Delegate Bob McDonnell, who in 2003 stated his belief that anyone who had engaged in oral or anal sex should not serve as a judge, rounds out the hit list for his response to a reporter asking whether he had ever engaged in such acts. "Not that I can recall," was his reply.

"Confidential to McDonnell," states the site, "either you're a liar, or you're really, really pathetic."

McDonnell did not return the Hook's call by presstime.
