Obama does it again!

According to The Politico, Barack Obama raised more than $40 million in March from more than 400,000 people (with an average donation of less than $100). (Update: Brian Straw had this first) That means Obama has raised an unprecedented $134 million for his run for President so far. At the same time, Hillary Clinton's campaign is apparently having trouble paying its bills!

Also interesting that it looks like President Jimmy Carter is heavily leaning towards Barack Obama and will be backing him at the convention:

Speaking with a Nigerian paper while in Abuja, Carter noted several reasons why he might be leaning toward the Illinois senator.

"Don't forget that Obama won in my state of Georgia," Carter said. "My town, which is home to 625 people, is for Obama, my children and their spouses are pro-Obama. My grandchildren are also pro-Obama."

"As a superdelegate, I would not disclose who I am rooting for but I leave you to make that guess," Carter added.

The Carter Center confirmed to CNN the newspaper did quote Carter accurately.

Update 2: If there is any question who has the momentum in this race, check out this story from Bloomberg:

"Obama, an Illinois senator, has the support of 99 Democratic U.S. lawmakers and governors, compared with Clinton's 96 -- a dramatic turnabout since the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses, when Clinton, a New York senator, had more than double Obama's support within this group, 91 to 43."

An interesting note from the diaries:
Another important note, according to the Politico:
Wolfson also said Clinton's fundraising totals would be out when the filings are due, around April 20.

What this seems to suggest to me is that she doesn't want super-delegates to see her fundraising totals. She is probably hoping that a win in PA will undo any damage done by fundraising totals.

Good for Jimmy! (Will Write For Food - 4/3/2008 1:57:18 PM)
I'd be surprised if he backed Hillary since Jimmy and Obama share the same kind of populist politics and commitment to faith.

Clinton's Unpaid Bills (Flipper - 4/3/2008 2:25:09 PM)
The Clinton campaign has deliberately adopted the strategy of not paying all of their bills.  By not paying their bills, they are able to continue spending the money they raise on ads, staffing, etc.  Then, in the event they do lose the nomination, Clinton can say that her leaving the race is contingent upon the Obama campaign retiring her campaign debt.

It should be the McCain campaign that retires her debt (snolan - 4/3/2008 6:54:37 PM)
They are more closely aligned and have more in common.

Clinton raises $20 million in March

Posted: 03:37 PM ET

(CNN) - Six hours after senior advisers to Hillary Clinton told reporters her March fundraising total would not be released until later this month, campaign sources tell CNN her campaign raised $20 million during that time period - about half of what rival Barack Obama took in for the month.

Nice haul for Barack (again).  I'm surprised she got $20m, its pouring money down the drain.  Then again, maybe republcans are feeding her cash to hurt Obama.

Keep In Mind..... (Flipper - 4/4/2008 12:56:19 AM)
a lot of what she raised, I suspect, is money that can only be spent in the gerneral election, since a lot of her backers tapped out months ago for the primary.

New PA Poll (DanG - 4/4/2008 1:37:34 AM)
Insider Advantage will release a new poll soon showing Hillary with only a 3 point lead in PA.  This, coupled with the fact that Obama can vastly outspend her, will not be welcome news in Hillaryland.

RK Buries Local Lead Again- who are the 11th CD candidates for? (GuyFawkesRedux - 4/4/2008 2:42:33 AM)
Leslie sent out a mailer, endorsing Hillary

Then, after Obama wins in all but 1 of the 11th CD precincts- Leslie tries to backtrack and posts some BS on her blog

Is it possible to endorse Leslie / Hillary and Obama at the same time
