Democrats across the state of Texas are meeting in county conventions today to elect 7,298 delgates to the Texas state convention.

As of 5:25 p.m., CST, 49 of 284 counties have reported theier results, with Clinton holding a slim lead over Obama, 510 delegates to 508 delegates.  Most large counties throughout the state have yet to report results, such as Tarrant, Travis, Harris and Dallas, which were caried by Obama during the primary and are electing more than 200 delegates each to the state convention.  In addition, El Paso (170 Delegates) and Hidalgo (115 delegates) couties, carried by Clinton in the primary, have not reported either.

Clinton is continuing to dominate counties throughout Texas with large Hispanic populations.  Webb county, located on the border with Mexico which Clinton handily carried in the primary, turned into a blowout, with Obama failing to meet viability.  Clinton swept all 51 state convention delegates.

Obama has carried Galveston county today, by a margin of 66 delegates to 45 delegates for Clinton.  Clinton won this county during the primary, 51% to 46%.

I'll update as more results are reported.

Update by Flipper, 6:25 p.m., CST
With 54 of 284 counties reporting, Obama is leading Clinton 586 delegates to 574.  Clinton continues her romp through the Rio Grande Valley, carrying Duval county 12 to 0 and Maverick county 12 to 1.  The convention in Tarrant Couny (Ft. Worth), which Obama carried in the primary 54% to 45% is an absolute disaster.  See the link to The Texas Observer for details.

Obama has a significant lead that has built up the last hour or so, based on 85 of 284 county conventions reporting and leads Clinton 1676 to 1240. Update by Flipper, 10:00 p.m., CST

Since the last update, Obama's lead has exploded and he now leads 2,580 to 1,749 or almost 60% to 40%, with about 43% of delegates remaining to be allocated.  Obama is trouncing Clinton in Dallas - senate district 23 went for Obama 306 to 67 and senate district 16 went Obama 150 to 105.

First results from Bexar county (San Antonio) look promising for Obama - Clinton carried Bexar county 55% to 42% in the primary.  Senate district 25 had 119 delegates up for grabs and Obama won here 62 to 57.  Three other senate districts in Bexar county have yet to report and have a combined 363 delegates to elect.

Obama is continuing a trend of winning the majority of county convention delegates selected today in counties that were carried by Clinton during the primary on March 4, 2007.  In Kaufman county, carried by Clinton during the primary 62% to 34%, Obama won 63% of the county delegates, which is a split of 15 to 9.

Clinton is continuing to clobber Obama in the Rio Grande valley - she shut out Obama in Starr county, 23 to 0.
