It's All About Timing

Today's interview in Washington Post shows that while Jerry Kilgore moves on to a new job (corporate law at Williams Mullen), he still appears to bear a few raw emotions about the last election...

When asked about rumors circulating about replacing U.S. Attorney Paul J. McNulty, Kilgore said:

"I've worked in the U.S. attorney's office," he said. "I'm not interviewing for that post."

Ouch.

Kilgore said he has been approached by national party officials to consider running against U.S. Rep. Rick Boucher (D-Va.), who represents the 9th District in southwest Virginia.

Interesting...

Reflecting on his recent loss to Democratic candidate Kaine, Kilgore chalked it up to bad timing. "It just wasn't a good year to run as a Republican," he said.

Huh? Timing?

"My reentry into politics will be all about timing."

So if entering the last election with a substantial lead wasn't good timing, just what kind of timing would Kilgore's reentry into politics really take?

Does Carrico represe (Teddy - 4/4/2006 11:30:31 PM)
Does Carrico represent serious enough competition for Boucher that we can expect another Swift Boating campaign? I hope Rick takes this seriously.

I really don't think (Neal2028 - 4/4/2006 11:30:31 PM)
I really don't think Boucher will retire anytime soon.  He's turning 60 in 2006.

If and when he does retire, I would think Bud Phillips (age 50) would be our possible candidate, or we may have some other possibilities by then.

But again, I wouldn't look for it until at least 2010....

I think Sen. Wampler (J. Sarge - 4/4/2006 11:30:31 PM)
I think Sen. Wampler will be the Republican selection to run for this seat when Boucher retires.
