Obama/Huckabee '08?

Here's Mike Huckabee admirably addressing the more complex issues from Obama's speech on race yesterday.

It reminded me of an important article in the Christian Science Monitor, which argued that Huckabee's evangelical populism was paving the way for powerful inroads by Obama.

Will Huckabee's campaign encourage evangelicals to vote for a Democrat?  Good stuff.

So setting aside the obvious issues of Reproductive Rights, Marriage Freedom, Education Opportunity, and that pesky Separation of Church and State... could an Obama/Huckabee ticket win the nation?

Huckabee defends Obama's minister (Rebecca - 3/19/2008 1:08:58 PM)
This is remarkable. Two ministers who agree that its ok for black people to feel some resentment, one white and one black.

It was pretty amazing (The Grey Havens - 3/19/2008 2:23:56 PM)
Huckabee just really comes across as a good guy.  I'd never want him as a president, but he's got the common decency to admit the realities of Obama's speech.

"So setting aside the obvious issues of Reproductive Rights, Marriage Freedom, Education Opportunity, and that pesky Separation of Church and State..."

You have a very dry sense of humor, GH.

Glad somebody got that... ;) (The Grey Havens - 3/19/2008 2:22:50 PM)

Ok, irony... (AnonymousIsAWoman - 3/19/2008 9:47:24 PM)
Actually, Huckabee seems to be a decent individual who gave some nuanced answers and had compassion.

But I wouldn't want him a hearbeat away from the presidency precisely because of those obvious issues, and especially that pesky separation of church and state :)

Huckabee is bonkers (Lowell - 3/19/2008 10:06:26 PM)
and would be an absolute disaster as president or vice president.

Obama choosing Huckabee as a running mate (Terry85 - 3/20/2008 6:39:07 PM)
would be just about the only thing I could think of that would keep me home on election day.  Unless I could do a write in (which I don't think you can do on presidential ballots in VA??).

that pesky Separation of Church and State. (Jenn2002 - 3/21/2008 6:46:26 PM)
Why do so few people realize that James Garfield was an ordained minister (and a revival preacher) who (Like Huckabee) left the pulpit to participate in politics?  Oh yeah, then we might realize that the seperation of Church and State monster is just a pile of laundry... and nobody wants that, its more fun to run around screaming that the sky is falling.

Ignorance never did anyone any good (The Grey Havens - 3/22/2008 1:48:32 AM)
Willful ignorance is a repulsive blight on this country.

Who is going to decide what the religion of America is? Christians, right?  Well, considering that there are over 100,000 distinct christian sects, just which of those should be "official"?  And, you know, there are more and more Jews, Hindus and Muslims in America, so why not one of those?

Religious freedom is so dear to America that it is in the First Amendment... not the second or the third, but the very first one.

The founding fathers, the constitution, and every american who has ever fought and died for freedom reviles your willful ignorance.  May God have mercy on your soul.
