Washington Post Investigation Reveals GOP Doesn't Like Kaine

In a startling revelation, today's Washington Post reports General Assembly Republicans have lots of bad things to say about Gov. Tim Kaine. Tomorrow's exclusive: Redskins fans say bad stuff about the Cowboys.

So what's the real issue here? Virginia Democratic Party Chair C. Richard Cranwell hits the nail on the head:

"I think the problem Tim is having in reaching out across the aisle is directly correlated to the success Mark Warner had," said Cranwell, who served in the House from 1972 to 2002. "I think the Republicans in the House said never again will we be bipartisan with a governor and allow him to get a 72 percent approval rating."

GOP leaders admitted that they are hesitant to work with Kaine, who is expected to target some House Republicans for defeat next year.

The first person quoted in the Post story? Del. Terry Kilgore (R-Scott), whose twin brother Jerry, as you may recall, blew a double digit lead in the polls to drop the 2005 governor's race to Kaine by six points. An unimpeachable source if there ever was one.

They used to specialize in NEWS

Too bad that they are going the way of most other newspapers, into extinction.

I thought it was another one of those satirical articles... (aznew - 3/16/2008 6:45:08 PM)
Like the Charlotte Allen piece in the Post Outlook two weeks ago about how stupid women are.

RTD's profile was actually better. (RFKdem - 3/16/2008 7:26:45 PM)
The Times-Disgrace actually had a very nice profile on Gov. Kaine in today's paper.  Kind of scary when an RTD article is better than a Post article.

Tom Davis in the Washington Post (mikeporter - 3/16/2008 8:32:52 PM)
"It's no mystery," said Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.). "You have a very unhappy electorate, which is no surprise, with oil at $108 a barrel, stocks down a few thousand points, a war in Iraq with no end in sight and a president who is still very, very unpopular. Bush has just killed the Republican brand."
