Arlington Democrats Reach for the Sky

What is the goal of Arlington Democrats led by Chair Peter Rousselot for the 2008 Presidential Election? 80%!

From the Arlington Sun Gazette:

The mantra - dubbed 80 in '08 - is "a slogan you're going to hear more about," party chairman Peter Rousselot told members of the Arlington County Democratic Committee on March 5.

In contested races, county Democrats can usually count on between 65 and 75 percent of the vote. Hitting the 80-percent mark would be a new record, but is "very, very doable," Rousselot said.

The party was challenged to hit the target by Mark Warner, who brought up the idea when he had state Democrats over for a big dinner.

"We only gulped slightly" when the number was mentioned, Rousselot said.

It's certainly a lofty goal, but one that could hand Virginia's electoral votes to a Democrat for the first time since 1968 1964. Great job Peter and the rest of the Arlington County Democratic Committee for setting the record (74.3% for Tim Kaine and 72.6% for Jim Webb- providing his margain of victory) and then setting the bar even higher!

80% would be amazing! (notwaltertejada - 3/9/2008 10:52:36 PM)
we really need to focus on turnout though. we don't always have as good a turnout as we would like in some precincts here. (crystal city, hume, oakridge, rosslyn) the higher the turnout, the more likely we are to hit that goal. i can even see mark warner surpassing 80 in his race.

Last VA Dem Electoral Votes - 1964, actually n/t (GinterParked - 3/10/2008 12:37:04 AM)
