Sen. Allen: a contradiction wrapped in a talking point

Just to put Sen. Allen's latest flip-flop on hate crimes into context, here is what Allen says is his "first priority":

"My first priority in the U.S. Senate is keeping Virginia a safe place to live, work, learn and raise a family. I will continue to work to honor our law enforcement and give them the tools they need to keep our communities safe."

Regardless of your position on hate crime legislation, you can't dispute Allen's own words.  And, unfortunately, his "first priority" doesn't appear to apply to gay Virginians who face the danger of hate crimes.  Allen is for hate crimes legislation, and used to support such a law for all Virginians.  Not anymore - not for Virginians that are disliked by the hard right wing.  In their case, Allen's first priority now is political self-interest.

Sen. George Allen: using Virginians as a step ladder in 2006 and beyond.  Which rung are you on?
