Focusing on Bush 2.0: 100-Year War McCain

Following the blow-by-blow of campaigns often makes us lose perspective. We tend to believe that some stories may destroy a candidate. Sometimes, like the  macaca story, it does. Most often it doesn't.

McCain having a girlfriend back in 2000 is not really significant. The story seems shaky, it is hard to follow, and it happened a long time ago. So what if he had a girlfriend while being married? Most of the guys in the Senate seem to have one.

If we want to write about McCain, we should focus where the real damaging information is, the present:

* McCain promises 100 Years of War
* McCain is Bush running for his third term

And who said this recently? McCain himself.

These two central components of the McCain platform are so repulsive to most Americans, that McCain followers can't handle them themselves. They will try to explain them away, telling you that he doesn't really mean what he said. The straight talker doesn't mean what he says?!!

Just 4 years ago the easy solution for Bush supporters when faced with an unfortunate Bushism was to deny Bush ever said it. Now McCain promising 100 years of occupation is one click away. Thanks, youtube.

I also noticed that pointing these two things out agitate his supporters, so this must be hitting a nerve.

Again, let's focus on the most damaging elements of his campaign:

* McCain is promising 100 Years of War
* McCain is Bush running for his third term

But McCain's such a cute crazy guy (The Grey Havens - 2/26/2008 2:04:59 AM)
Nobody really wants to be in Iraq 100 years.  McCain's just crazy enough to say things like that.

He's silly.

He should be president, he should just be put someplace nice and comfortable to reflect on his many many decades of honorable service to our nation.

crazy silly guy...

McCain's Commitment.. Should he be committed? (The Grey Havens - 2/26/2008 7:43:54 AM)

The lobbyists . . . (JPTERP - 2/26/2008 9:58:39 AM)
on the Straight Talk Express are what I'm worried about.

In terms of economic policy, McCain would be a disaster for the average American family.  We can't forget that this guy's lax oversight of the Savings & Loan industry helped create a major fiasco ($120 something billion dollar bailout by tax-payers, it contributed to a recession) -- and yes, there is also that not so inconsequential several trillion dollar war he's bequeathing to future generations.

McCain: Bush's 3rd Term (Hugo Estrada - 2/26/2008 12:36:07 PM)
Yes, you are right. Yet once the name lobbyist pops up, it makes many people's head spin. Most don't really understand how lobbying works.

They do understand that McCain would be running Bush's 3rd term of poor regulations. They understand it because they see it in their pockets.

Remember, Bush was big into:

* Poor on creating regulations to secure Americans
* Poor on enforciming regulations
