Hillary Clinton - Swiftboat Captain

A picture is worth a thousand words:

The source of this picture is what is the most astonishing.  As we all know by now, the Clinton campaign has stooped as low as they can possibly go.

The response by the Clinton spokeperson is just mind boggling - and quite frankly an insult to the intelligence of the American people:

"If Barack Obama's campaign wants to suggest that a photo of him wearing traditional Somali clothing is divisive, they should be ashamed," Williams said in a statement. "Hillary Clinton has worn the traditional clothing of countries she has visited and had those photos published widely."

Politics aside, I believe that it is time for Clinton to resign from this race.  She has dishonored herself and the Democratic party by unleashing this type of attack.

I think I know where this came from (Rebecca - 2/25/2008 6:49:28 PM)
I think I have more information on where this came from. I will post a diary on this when I get home tonight and fill everyone in.

I'd be interested in that (aznew - 2/25/2008 7:07:06 PM)
Because the origin is not clear. Drudge says it came from a"Clinton staffer," but it is unclear what that means, exactly, and I have even seen it kicked about that this is right-wing disinformation to sow conflict among Democrats.

I have no personal knowledge one way or another.

Meanwhile, lets have all the facts out.

This diary quotes from an earlier, inadequate statement from the Clinton campaign earlier today. since then, Clinton campaign spokesperson Howard Wolfson categorically denied on the record that the campaign had anything to do with sending around this photograph, although obviously it could not guarantee whether one of it staffers, of which there are 700, did so on their own. As per TPM:

Asked if the campaign had any role, Wolfson said, "No, not to my knowledge...I've never seen that picture before. I'm not aware that anyone else here has. I'm not aware that anyone here has circulated this e-mail."

I hope I am wrong (relawson - 2/25/2008 9:45:17 PM)
This is one time I hope that I am wrong.  I'm sure the truth will eventually come out.

Opposition research? (Rebecca - 2/25/2008 9:07:10 PM)
Obviously someone is out there looking for this stuff. See my diary on the arrival of the opposition research team in Kenya.

Bush dons Chinese robe !! (hereinva - 2/25/2008 10:00:03 PM)
Yes, its true. Back in November 2006 President Bush wore an
"ao dai"..in fact it matched the same one worn by President
Hu Jintao. What are the implications if the leader of the free world  wears the SAME ethnic robe as the leader of the world's largest communist country??! Better call CNN.. Photo is from the President's November tour in 2006

That's not the point (relawson - 2/25/2008 10:21:27 PM)
There is nothing wrong with wearing this type of garb.

There is something wrong with political inuendo and scare tactics designed to - dare I say it - scare white American male voters away from Obama.

They are trying to portray Obama as "not one of us".  Clinton knows that Obama is as "American as Apple Pie", yet someone in her campaign apparently supports a photo released for the sole reason of apealing to the lowest denominator.  Drudge - agree with him or not - is usually reliable and has good sources.  I believe that this did come from the top of her campaign - and quite possibly Hillary herself.

It isn't the photo that matters - it is the reason as to why it was released that matters.  The only possible reason is to appeal to racism in order to achieve political points.

To Me it's Silly Season (TMSKI - 2/25/2008 10:26:18 PM)
I can't get too worked up over this photo. It's better that silly crap like this comes out in a primary rather then the general election.

What bugs me is the smarmy and sarcastic Hillary showing that she doesn't understand a thing about leadership. Obama inspires for many INTANGIBLE reasons. Bottom line it's not an act and his supporters haven't drunk the kool-aid .... no more than the colonist rallied around themes like "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" ... or "I've not yet begun to fight" ... pick your favorite.

I just don't think you'll find any in Hillary's stump speeches.
