Kaine Campaign Raises $2.6 Million in Latest Fundraising Report

Richmond ? Lt. Governor Tim Kaine?s campaign for Governor announced today that it raised over $2.6 million over 29 business days of fundraising in the last three months, bringing its fundraising totals to over $8 million to date.  The campaign will also report over $5 million cash on hand as of March 31, 2005.

The campaign was prohibited from raising money for more than half of this reporting period, due to the fundraising moratorium required of state office holders by law during the General Assembly session.

?We?re very pleased with the results of our fundraising efforts, given that the moratorium left us with so little time to raise money,? said campaign manager Mike Henry.  ?We are also excited about the growing number of Virginians who are investing in the campaign because they want to see Tim Kaine in the Governor?s office.?

The Kaine for Governor campaign continues to enjoy most of its support from within the state, reporting 2295 donations from 2055 individual Virginia donors this period. Nearly 90 percent of all donations received this reporting period came from Virginians.

The campaign also received donations from more than 1074 new donors this period and will report more than 2300 individual donations during the reporting period.

The report, to be filed with the state Friday, covers the period from January 1, 2005 through March 31, 2005.

The campaign?s fundraising success surpasses that of past gubernatorial candidates in Virginia.  At this point in the 2001 campaign cycle, the Mark Warner for Governor campaign had raised more than $1.4 million during the quarter and had $3.4 million on-hand, bringing his fundraising total to $5.4 million; however, Mark Warner was not subject to the fundraising moratorium. Mark Earley, who was affected by the moratorium, had raised $879,000 for the comparable period, with $159,000 on-hand, bringing his fundraising total to $1.9 million.
