Richmond Legislative Activity On Dulles Rail - ALERT!
Two members of the Virginia House of Delegates, Del. Joe May (33rd district) and Del. Dave Albo (42nd district) have added an amendment to the State Budget bill.

These fine Assemblymen should be commended for representing responsibly the people of Virginia in their quest to right the wrongs of the ongoing Dulles Metrorail Project.

The language of their amendment would require Virginia's Secretary of Transportation to solicit competitive proposals for the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project and address recommendations included in the U.S. Department of Transportation Inspector General report issued last July.

The amendment was added to the State's budget bill, which passed the Appropriations Committee with its language intact. It is expected to come before the full House this week. When the House votes, we want to be sure that the language is included in the bill.

The Senate Budget bill does not include this language and so the language will be a topic of negotiation in the Senate-House Conference process that will ensue.

We MUST ensure that this legislative language remains intact through the Conference process. For this, it needs steadfast supporters from both bodies and both sides of the aisle.

It is necessary NOW to let our legislators in both the Virginia House and Senate know that we are strongly in favor of the language, with no substantive changes, and its final adoption.

Urgent Action Needed!
Your immediate action is needed NOW to ensure support for the May-Albo amendment language.

We must let our Delegates and Senators know the following:

  1. We support inclusion of the May-Albo legislative language, with no substantive changes, in the final State budget proposal,
  2. The legislative language will secure the future of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project and will ensure that the best price will be negotiated through the competitive bidding process, and
  3. As a resident of your district and the Commonwealth of Virginia, and a strong supporter of competitive bidding for the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project, your support for the May-Albo amendment language is very important to me.

Your e-mail or phone call TODAY to Richmond will take just a few minutes of time, but is critical to success!

The Senate Six
The six Senators listed below will be participating in the Senate-House Conference process and will be critical to ensuring Conference adoption of the May-Albo legislative language.

If you have an extra five or ten minutes - this is important - please give them a call to voice your opinion. Ask that they INSIST on the inclusion of this language.

These Fine Assemblymen??!!?? (The Economist - 2/20/2008 10:10:54 AM)
Isn't it quite a stretch of the truth to call Delegates Dave Albo and Joe May "these fine assemblymen?"

Yes, they suck. (Lowell - 2/20/2008 10:14:36 AM)
But on this issue, they're actually right.

Nothing New (robgop - 2/20/2008 10:22:00 PM)
This is nothing new for Del. Albo. He has pushed for transportation improvements since early 2006. Cheers to Dave on this one!
