With 20 of 34 precincts in, Pollard up 63%-37%. results.

UPDATE: It looks like the final margin of victory will be somewhere around 58%-42%. Not great considering he surpassed 60% in his last two races in the 99th, but it's a little better than the spread he beat Richard Stuart during their Senate race last year in the Neck.

UPDATE II: The AP reports that Pollard cruised with 63% of the vote.

that should make Tim Kaine happy (teacherken - 2/19/2008 9:08:13 PM)
and it sure makes me happy.

Now we're really getting within striking distance (Lowell - 2/19/2008 9:13:12 PM)
of taking back the House of Delegates.  Top targets for 2009?

*Dave Albo
*Tom Rust
*John Welch
*Jeff Frederick
*Scott Lingamfelter
*Danny Marshall
*Anne Crockett-Stark
*Donald Merricks
*Others?

John Welch gone bye bye in 2007 (elevandoski - 2/19/2008 9:14:50 PM)
Hasta la vista, baby!

My bad. (Lowell - 2/19/2008 9:22:32 PM)
Too focused on Wisconsin and Hawaii...which state am I in again? :)

Sideshow Bob Marshall (elevandoski - 2/19/2008 9:15:49 PM)

Don't think that one is gonna happen (DanG - 2/19/2008 9:16:50 PM)
I get the feeling Bob is pretty secure, sadly enough.

The thing about Bob Marshall (legacyofmarshall - 2/19/2008 9:27:05 PM)
Even if we don't take his district in '09, it's good for a Prince William/Loudoun Democrat to get his/her name out there, because in 2011, Marshall's district is going to be sliced in THREE!  That's right, the 13th is bigger than any SENATE district - obscenely large.  So my guess is that the Loudoun portion will become a district that leans slightly Democrat, the central Prince William part (in the Southern/Eastern end of the district) where Sideshow Bob lives he'll probably keep, and the stuff in between will probably be a tossup.

I'm feeling pretty good about knocking out Anne Crockett-Stark (SWVA.Observer - 2/19/2008 9:19:38 PM)
There's a lot of rumbling in the district, and the local committees in Wythe, Tazewell, Giles, Bland, and Pulaski are seeing an amazing energy from their supporters.

Don't forget Peggy Frank either... 48% against Dave Nutter was thoroughly impressive.

Crockett-Stark (legacyofmarshall - 2/19/2008 9:22:30 PM)
Is there a confirmed challenger for her yet?

My list (legacyofmarshall - 2/19/2008 9:21:38 PM)
Definitely:
Crockett-Stark
Nutter
Poindexter
Bob Marshall
Dan Marshall
Albo
Rust

Maybe target:
Carrico
Hugo
Miller
Frederick
Loupassi
Cole
Hamilton
Oder
Pogge

And DEFINITELY THE LEADERSHIP:
Griffith, Howell, Saxman, Suit, Kilgore, and Cox CANNOT GET FREE RIDES, NO MATTER HOW SAFE THEIR DISTRICTS ARE!

Lowell, didn't John Welch get TOTALLY DESTROYED last year... Delegate Bobby Mathieson, anyone?

Congratulations to Delegate Pollard, I look forward to seeing him around the GAB!

Yeah, my bad on John Welch. (Lowell - 2/19/2008 9:24:26 PM)
I guess beating him once wasn't enough for me.  Ha. :)

P.S.  For the record, Bobby Mathieson beat John Welch 57.5%-42.1%.

Peninsula Delegates (Johnny Longtorso - 2/19/2008 9:25:30 PM)
Glenn Oder, Tom Hamilton, and Tom Gear. They're all in districts that are winnable, but for some reason never get challenged by the Democrats.

Great I hope he changes (TMSKI - 2/19/2008 9:25:08 PM)
his position of the Omega plant disaster occurring daily on the Bay.

DPVA congratulates Pollard (Lowell - 2/19/2008 10:30:21 PM)
DEMOCRAT ALBERT POLLARD WINS TODAY'S SPECIAL ELECTION TO HOUSE OF DELEGATES

Richmond- The Democratic Party of Virginia congratulates Albert Pollard for winning today's special election to the House of Delegates from Virginia's Northern Neck (HD 99). His election brings the number of Democrats in the Virginia House of Delegates up to 45 from just 34 Democratic members in 2002.

"Albert's win tonight is just one more sign that Virginians are looking for the kind of commonsense leadership our Democratic candidates are offering," said DPVA Executive Director, Levar Stoney. "Albert is known for being a fiscally responsible leader who can and does work across party lines to find solutions to the problems we face. His service in the Virginia House of Delegates will be of great benefit to the citizens of the 99th."

Pollard served in the Virginia House of Delegates for six years, representing the 99th district. He retired in 2005 to spend more time with his family.

This is all that needs to be said..... (Not Harry F. Byrd, Sr. - 2/20/2008 12:14:34 AM)

Looks like the end result was (Johnny Longtorso - 2/20/2008 9:24:38 AM)
57.6% - 42.4%. Washington managed to win King George County (45-55) and the two precincts from Caroline County (36-64), but Pollard won Lancaster (60-40), Northumberland (58-42), Richmond (67-33!), and Westmoreland (65-35).
