Thank You Frank Luntz!

If you haven't heard already, we Democrats have managed to get ahold of the Republicans' secret political playbook, written by none other than Virginia's own Frank Luntz (he's based in Alexandria). That's right, this is the same Frank Luntz who helped develop Newt Gingrich's (in)famous "Contract with America," and who was "formally reprimanded by the American Association for Public Opinion Research" for his work on that project, according to Slate Magazine.
In addition to the Contract ON America, Luntz has worked for ultra-conservative think tanks like the Hudson Institute and also for far-right extremists like Pat Buchanan. In other words, when Luntz talks, the right wing listens.
So, it's great news that we now have a copy of Luntz' extensive playbook on how Republicans should market themselves and how they should attack Democrats. Top Democratic blogger Markos Moulitsas Z?niga, owner of the wildly popular DailyKos site, has covered this story extensively, so we won't belabor it. Suffice it to say that there are plenty of lessons here for the Tim Kaine campaign as it battles its two Republican opponents -- Russ Potts and Jerry Kilgore - this year in Virginia. As Slate Magazine says, in its article, "GOP Master Plan Revealed,": Luntz "literally tells you how to use words to manipulate people into being in favor of stuff that does them harm!"
