If you live in Chesterfield County and experienced problems on primary day, please contact the Virginia Democratic Party or the Chesterfield County Democratic Party.

As reportd in the press, voters in Chesterfield County experienced long lines which resulted in delays so long that voters were leaving before casting their ballot.  And to make matters worse, Chesterfield County was the only locality statewide to run out of ballots.

In several instances in which precincts ran out of ballots, voters were instructed to cast their ballots on shreds of paper and on legal pads.  Some voters were even instructed to write their name on the the piece of paper they were casting their ballot on - no secret ballot here!

Voters who decided not to write their names on slips of paper stayed in their voting precinct until after 8:00 p.m., Tuesday evening until more ballots arrived, to make sure their ballot would be counted properly.  Keep in mind that some of these voters were in line before 5:00 p.m.

Check out the videos as well - it is shocking.  Voters were really upset and had every right to be:

Larry Haake, the registrar in Chesterfield county, was obviously surprised by the big turnout - but where has he been?  Democrats have been turning out in HUGE numbers since the Iowa caucuses and it has been heavily reported by the press.  And the State Board of elections posted on their website that they were expecting at least a 35% turnout.

Haake seemed surprised that their were actually DEMOCRATS who turned out to vote in this normally Republican county.  And Obama carried 70% of the vote in this county.

The level of incompetence displayed by Haake is appalling and he should resign.  The number of voters he disenfranchised is unacceptable.

Haake was also the registrar who, in 2004, posted police officers at precincts throughout the county during the 2004 general election in the event of a terrorist attack.  Of course, a lot of voters saw this as an attempt to intimidate black voters.  The ACLU stepped in to stop this but were unsuccessful.  Even the Bush justice Department was concerned enough to send  monitors to Chesterfield County to monitor the voting process.

There are also numerous other irregularites that have ocurred in the past - Haake needs to end this cycle of incompetence and resign - NOW.

And if you would like to let Mr. Hake know your thoughts on this issue, the link below contains his contact information.

Chesterfield Voting Disaster Worse Than Expected (Flipper - 2/16/2008 1:34:25 AM)
Voting irregularities in Chesterfield County on primary day appear to be worse than what was originally stated.

Channel 12 news in Richmond is reporting that voters are now coming forward stating that they were told to go home when they arrived at their polling location because their precinct had run out of ballots.

It is also being reported that at least 9 precincts instructed voters to cast their ballots on slips of paper.  County officials said at least 300 ballots had been executed in this fashion.

The State Board of Elections has still not determined if these votes in question are legal.

looking at the voting turnout numbers (Alter of Freedom - 2/17/2008 5:01:19 PM)
it looks as if Chesterfield was flooded with voters in areas or precincts that normally have very low turnout numbers, were talking 15% of registered voters or less even in November elections and this time saw an increase of numbers which of course resulted in the ballots running out.
The idea that any area has the exact number of ballots for every eligible voter is ridiculous and beside even in my district which has laways been overwhelmingly Republican how many Deomcrat ballots in a Primary are you supposed to have on hand when seldom does the number reach even 10% of the total number of votes cast.
Maybe they should have anticipated the turnout maybe not but it is not as if these things are orchestrated the day or week before, heck everyone was still on the printed ballot even all those that had dropped out and there was no way at the time of requesting the number of printed ballots that this kind of momentum would occur with one campaign.
