CNN Calls Virginia for John McCain

With 50% of precincts reporting, CNN has called Virginia for John McCain.  Currently, McCain has 47% of the vote and Huckster-bee has 45%.   That's a close call for McCain in Virginia, especially given the large lead he had in the polls just a few days ago. However, the polls were narrowing quickly as the election neared, indicating significant dissatisfaction with the presumptive Republican nominee among evangelical voters and maybe others as well.  That does not bode well for Republicans' chances this fall.

Disgusted and Appalled that 45% of VA-Rethugs think Huckster-bee is acceptable (snolan - 2/12/2008 9:39:07 PM)
Subject says it, this is just freaky.

Gah!

Well, damn. (Sui Juris - 2/12/2008 9:43:38 PM)
With this result, I'm really not sure what the Rest Of VA is good for.  I was really pulling for the candidate that counted on miracles instead of votes!

Too bad there weren't a few more "freaky" (Lowell - 2/12/2008 9:48:19 PM)
Republicans.  I'd love it if they nominated Huckster-bee, Dem's would win an overwhelming landslide this November.  Oh well...

does it really matter (Alter of Freedom - 2/12/2008 9:54:44 PM)
Nothern Virginia clearly put McCain over the top. It looks like NVA appears posied to decide every election going forward with its population density and voter turnout ratios.
Though we are still ONE Virginia it is striking just whole different NVA is compared to the rest of the conservatives in the State that are trending Huckabee. NVA appears heavily concentrated with moderate Republicans and independents conservatives that go back and forth between Parties.
And Scott you may just need some of those "rethugs" come the Senate race in 09 dont ya think. Webb needed them against Allen so tred lightly on the lot.

Huckabee is too scary to play that game (snolan - 2/12/2008 10:40:13 PM)
We are dangerously close to a fundamentalist theocracy, and cannot afford for Huckabee to get close to the white house.

It may be too soon (Houdon - 2/12/2008 10:00:20 PM)
Taking a look at the precincts not yet in, it may be too soon for them to have called this one.  Chesterfield hasn't even reported yet, nor many of the other rural counties in which the Huckster is strong.

90% for McCain in Chestefield just reporting in (Alter of Freedom - 2/12/2008 10:24:01 PM)

Tom Davis is soooo freaking hip! (Chris Guy - 2/12/2008 10:01:01 PM)
Rep. Tom Davis told the crowd at John McCain's victory party a few minutes ago that the candidate will speak at 9:30 p.m.

"As they say in Wayne's World, party on," Davis added.

Orange County votes are strange... (Kifaru - 2/12/2008 10:31:39 PM)
Did anyone else notice the strange voting results in Orange? Richardson and Kucinich got 400 votes apiece.  If you look at the precinct returns it appears to be from 4 of the 10 precincts. I wonder if that is due to a computer glitch? Or were they hotbeds of support for the candidates?

As an aside, there were more African American voters at my precinct today than I have EVER seen.  I voted in the Hazel Run precinct in Spotsy....

Forgot to comment on the Republican results at SBE site... (Kifaru - 2/12/2008 10:35:24 PM)
I can't get to the county/precinct results for the repub race.  Is anyone else having that problem? Maybe Repubs don't like Firefox:)

48% to 41% McCain over Huckabee in Orange County (Alter of Freedom - 2/12/2008 11:56:33 PM)

easy workaround (CraigL - 2/12/2008 11:56:44 PM)
Were you looking at the democratic results first?  I ran into the same bug when I used the link at the top of the results page.  Try going back to the main SBE site and click the republican link from there, and it should work fine.
