NLS: Mike Henry Quits Clinton Campaign

I don't see any more details yet, and I don't see any other news outlets reporting this, but NLS has the scoop that Deputy Campaign Director Mike Henry apparently has quit the Clinton campaign.  As you probably recall, Mike Henry managed Tim Kaine's winning gubernatorial campaign against Jerry Kilgore in 2006.  I'll be very curious to find out the reasons behind Mike Henry's decision to quit.  It seems fair to say, however, that the Clinton campaign is in a bit of disarray at the moment.

UPDATE:  From Daily Kos:

MSNBC reports that Hillary Clinton Deputy Campaign Director Mike Henry has resigned.

Maybe losing all those states that didn't matter actually mattered after all.

Meanwhile, Ed Rendell says his state is racist.

Ouch.

UPDATE: Chris Cillizza has more on this:

Henry tendered his resignation yesterday morning but worked the last two days on a volunteer basis. His departure is not entirely unexpected, as he was brought into the campaign by Patti Solis Doyle, who stepped down on Sunday.

Interestingly, in 2004, Mike Henry "oversaw the Senate primary bid of wealthy businessman Blair Hull in Illinois. Hull was beaten in that contest by a state senator named Barack Obama." I can't figure out if that's ironic or not.  Where's Alanis Morissette when you need her? :)

Hi everyone.

I just wanted to let you know about a decision I've made.

Yesterday I made the decision to leave the campaign.  Out of respect for Maggie and her new leadership team I thought it was the best thing to do.  As someone who has managed campaigns, I share the unique understanding of the challenges that the campaign will face over the next several weeks.   Our campaign needs to move quickly to build a new leadership team, support them and their decisions and make the necessary adjustments to achieve the winning outcome for which we have all worked so hard for over a year now.

I also want to thank everyone for the opportunity to work with each one of you, establish friendships, and I will always fondly remember the camaraderie that I have build with so many people on this staff.  You all are so talented and it has been a pleasure to work with you.  You have made this journey so much fun and rewarding.  Thank you.

It has been an honor to work for Senator Clinton on her presidential campaign.  I remain steadfast in my belief that Senator Clinton is the most qualified and most prepared person to be the next president of the United States and my support of her candidacy remains as strong as ever.

Good luck and I hope to see you soon.

Class note (Carrington - 2/12/2008 10:32:19 PM)
From a class guy.  Well done, Mike.

Clinton online team shaken up as well (Lowell - 2/13/2008 6:50:21 AM)
According to the Washington Post:

Along with the departures of campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle and deputy campaign manager Mike Henry, the Clinton campaign today revealed that two of its longtime online operation leaders are moving on.

"As part of the expansion of our Internet department following a tremendously successful month online, we will be adding 4 new staffers, two of whom will replace Kevin Thurman and Crystal Patterson, who moved on to new positions," said Clinton internet director Peter Daou. "Kevin and Crystal have been valued members of our team and we are grateful to them for their contribution to the campaign."

How this is going to help, I have no idea, but good luck!

Uh oh, this could be "muy malo" (Lowell - 2/13/2008 7:06:35 AM)
I doubt the Clinton campaign wants to see headlines like Latino Lawmakers Upset Over Clinton Camp Shake-Up, or words like these:

The anger in the Hispanic community over the ousting of Patti Solis Doyle as Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign manager continues to unfold, with two Hispanic legislators from Mrs. Clinton's home state sending an open letter to her expressing their concerns. (They're not the only ones voicing concerns.)

In a state like Texas, this could be muy malo for Hillary Clinton, to put it mildly.
