Hillary Ducks FISA Vote

Today the Senate voted on a bill to strip immunity from telecom companies that cooperated with the Bush Administration's warrantless wiretap program. Senators Obama and McCain showed up and voted (Obama against immunity, McCain for) and even had a brief moment on the Senate floor.

The bill was soundly defeated, but one interesting no show was Senator Hillary Clinton. All three Senators running for President are in the Potomac region for today's primaries, but unfortunately it appears that Senator Clinton did not have the time or the inclination to take a moment and take a stand on this important issue. At the very least it seems that she could have sent Bill in her place.

Quit being so critical...

If Hillary had voted (Chris Guy - 2/12/2008 7:31:56 PM)
and Obama didn't show...he NEVER hear the end of it.

sorry, not 'he' (Chris Guy - 2/12/2008 7:32:28 PM)
'he'd'

Webb (Kenton - 2/12/2008 7:38:00 PM)
Senator Webb voted with the Republicans on this one. To say that I'm disappointed is a huge understatement.

Sen. Feingold is none too happy about this (Chris Guy - 2/12/2008 7:42:09 PM)
With the Wisconson primary coming up and his endorsement still up for grabs, I wonder who he's leaning towards right now? The one who voted against immunity or the one that didn't show up?

I hear she voted "Not Present" (Sean Robertson - 2/12/2008 7:50:19 PM)
;-)

Jim Webb FISA vote (jarew - 2/13/2008 10:42:18 AM)
I am extremely disappointed at Webb's vote. Does he stand for the rule of law or not? Maybe he should watch Chris Dodd and see how a real leader acts.

I agree - Bad Vote on FISA (malharden - 2/13/2008 10:56:19 AM)
I realize he walks on water as far as RK is concerned, but that was truly a terrible vote.

It has been reported that his explanation is that he believes the telcos "acted in good faith".

Well, they violated the Constitution. These huge corporations have massive legal departments that would readily have told them so, assuming they asked.

Qwest didn't do the Bush administration's dirty work because they knew it was illegal. Is Qwest simply "smarter" than the other telcos? I don't believe that for a second.

Jim acted in defense of the telcos yesterday. He did not act in the interest of any citizen or voting constituent. He let me, and all of us down.

Follow the money (Just saying 2 - 2/16/2008 3:25:25 PM)
The trial lawyers pursuing class action suits against these companies are contributing money to the Obama and Hillary campaigns.
So...

A) Vote in the interest of the safety of your country
B) Vote in the special interests of the democrat party

You do the math
