Obama Leading in Maine [UPDATE: Obama Wins Maine]

With 44% of precincts reporting in Maine, Barack Obama is leading Hillary Clinton 57%-42%.  Over at Daily Kos, here's what Markos has to say:

Looking at the results of this Google Map mashup, and results from places like Bangor, I don't think this thing will be all that close after all. Obama should win by double digits which would be a stunning defeat for a Clinton campaign that by all reports should've been able to replicate its New Hampshire success in this state.

We'll see...stay tuned.

UPDATE: With 59% of precincts reporting, it's 57%-42% Obama.  Major upset in the making in Maine?

UPDATE #2: In other news, Kenton endorses Obama.

UPDATE 8:09 PM: With 87% of the precincts reporting, it's 59%-41% Obama.  CNN has called Maine for Obama.

Nice (DanG - 2/10/2008 7:44:30 PM)
I'm gonna wait for the AP, though.  But this is a good sign.

Just saw that (DanG - 2/10/2008 8:09:41 PM)
Barack Obama has won Maine.  And it looks like it's gonna be by a big number.  Sadly, the news isn't really noticing.  They are much more interested Virginia, Maryland, and DC (primarily Virginia).

That's okay. (Ingrid - 2/10/2008 8:12:42 PM)
We'll take it!

Hahaha, yeah (DanG - 2/10/2008 8:14:32 PM)
I'll admit, it's cool that people finally care about Virginia's Presidential Preference.

Huge upset in the making.

Most unexpected... (ericy - 2/10/2008 7:59:15 PM)

I kind of feel sorry for the Hillary supporters right now.  I started out the season as an Edwards supporter, so I can kind of relate.  Six months ago,  I was resigned to a Hillary nomination - if there were no Obama, I guess we would be saying that we are going with Hillary and going to hope for the best. Now I am cautiously optimistic about Obama.

I guess my point is that we shouldn't gloat.  We will all need to come together to defeat the Republicans - one of the two is going to win, one is going to lose.  That's the way the system is set up.  At the moment, Obama has the momentum, so I suppose he has the edge right now.

Don't feel sorry for them (Rebecca - 2/10/2008 9:26:08 PM)
They've had their day in the sun.

This is a huge upset (The Grey Havens - 2/10/2008 9:19:11 PM)
Maine is right next door to New Hampshire which really saved Hillary after Obama's amazing Iowa surge.

It's a very working-class kinda state that really breaks any and every myth about Obama's supposed ceiling of a coalition.

Intrade is betting on Obama now at levels matching his Iowa Surge.

He's effectively balanced hillary's super-delegate lead with real pledged delegates.

She's always been the front-runner, but now it seems to be narrowing off a bit.

she'll make a fine Senate majority leader ... (j_wyatt - 2/10/2008 9:58:10 PM)
She's already a great senator for New York, but could be playing an even more pivotal national role as Senate majority leader. Shy of the presidency, what better place is there for Senator Clinton to advance the cause of, for instance, healthcare reform?

VB Rally.. (proudvadem - 2/10/2008 11:21:34 PM)
Hey all,
I couldnt wait to post...WOW...what a crowd, what a night!!!
The line was wrapped around the block, Ive never seen anything like it.
Kaine introduced Obama, it was a replay from last night. ...but he was on fire!!! GREAT intro.
Obama spoke for around 40 minutes, same speech from last night but expanded on the military, vets, et.

What excited me was the makeup of the crowd, it looked like a Benetton ad. All ages, families, races. Most diverse crowd I have ever seen. Unity in action!! It was amazing.

All in all, a wonderful night in VB!I'm so proud to be a Democrat!

I was there also... (mikeporter - 2/11/2008 2:08:09 AM)
and completely agree with you proudvadem.  The crowd was an impressive 18,000 strong.  Obama most likely will get another sweep on Tuesday.  Virginia Victory to complete the trifecta.
