More excellent news for the Leslie Byrne campaign!

NOW Endorses Byrne for Congress

The National Organization for Women became the second major women's organization this week to endorse Leslie Byrne for Congress.  NOW brings a very large membership, along with thousands of activists with them, which will prove to be a major asset for Leslie's campaign.  The Byrne campaign is extremely pleased to have the support of NOW " NOW has been in the forefront of the fight for equality in this county. I'm glad to have them by my side in this fight to make sure government treats all of the people with fairness, dignity and respect", Byrne said.

They will officially announce their support and present their contribution to Leslie Byrne at her reception on Saturday afternoon prior to the Jefferson-Jackson dinner in Richmond.

Congratulations, and go Leslie!

Leslie "Solid D" vs. Gerry "Slimy R" (Hiker Joe - 2/8/2008 12:15:05 AM)
So who do we want to nominate?  Leslie Byrne, someone we all know will never embarrass our party. Or Gerry "I'll sell my soul to the highest bidder" Connolly.

I wretched when I saw Connolly on stage with Republican Elaine McConnell after her primary victory. I wretched when I found out Connolly had met with Tom Davis to discuss his political strategy. The last thing I want is a Democrat in office who is a clone of Tom Davis.

This is the same Connolly who several years ago responded to accusations of impropriety for not disclosing financial links to development interests who have business before the Board of Supervisors by saying:

"I will do exactly as Chairman Davis did" - see this Washington Post article.

I want my Democratic Party candidates to aspire to higher standards than that.

Connolly selling his soul... (HerbE - 2/8/2008 12:44:22 AM)
Yes, strategizing with Davis on Dem primary elections...

Then there's the Connolly who abuses citizens who testify at BOS meeting that disagree with his point of view; and one who spews lies and obscenities about his opponents.

I want my Dem party candidates to aspire to higher standards than that. I want a representative who will meet with all citizens and respect their POV, even if they disagree. Disagree, OK. Disagreeable, NO.

Great endorsement (HerbE - 2/8/2008 12:45:16 AM)
NOW is right to support Leslie. Bravo. Solid record, solid leadership.
