Shawn O?Donnell for Congress

Yes, the rumors are true. I soon will be publicly announcing my formal candidacy for Virginia?s First Congressional District House of Representatives seat in 2006.

During the past five years, average Americans have suffered the consequences of the incompetent, corrupt, immoral, radical right, regressive Republican administration of George W. Bush.  Every step of the way he has been aided and abetted by Republican rubber stamp cohorts in Congress like Jo Ann Davis (R-VA-01).  The results have been a devastating disaster for our country.

During this administration, Americans watched in horror on 9/11 as the hijacked planes hit the towers and the Pentagon while Bush sat frozen in a Sarasota classroom reading My Pet Goat, then flew all over the county like a scared rabbit.  This was soon followed by the inappropriate invasion and occupation of Iraq as Bush sent our brave men and women into harm?s way based on distortions and outright lies, and without adequate protective armor, equipment, or planning.  After more than two and a half years in that quagmire, there are now more than 2,100 American soldiers dead and thousands more injured and wounded, many horribly.

Today Americans are witnessing the continuing tragedy in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama where thousands of their fellow Americans were trapped without food, water, and other basic necessities for almost a week; countless numbers drowned and bodies floated in toxic waste while National Guard troops and vital equipment were stuck in Iraq and unavailable to perform their regular duties of responding to state and national emergencies and saving lives and property here at home.

Americans increasingly have become aware of many other disasters inflicted by and scandals associated with this Republican administration and its Congressional accomplices including Jo Ann Davis.  It would take too many pages to list them all.  However, here are just a few brief examples of what Bush has perpetrated with Jo Ann Davis? rubber stamp support:

These are just some examples of how, time and time again, Republicans have put corporate welfare ahead of America?s needs.  Any way you view it, it is unacceptable representation.

I know what Democrats have achieved and what we can once again achieve when we put people first.  Democrats MUST stand up for Democratic Party values and take the first steps now to reclaim America for average, hardworking Americans, their children, their children?s children, and the very soul of our great nation.

I am a pro-labor businessman, Democrat, party activist, and an average working American with an identification and affinity with the Democratic base.  My credentials and experience make me an excellent candidate for representative of Virginia?s First Congressional District.

With your help and dedication, we can win in 2006!

By the way, Shawn wr (Lowell - 4/4/2006 11:29:54 PM)
By the way, Shawn wrote this book.  Very impressive.

Finally, I, as a fir (Chris from ASL - 4/4/2006 11:29:54 PM)
Finally, I, as a first district person, have a good choice. This has been a "safe" republican district for years but if we put in a solid Dem to run, we may have a chance.

For once I won't have to write in my name for Congress ;-)

I would add that Con (Lowell - 4/4/2006 11:29:54 PM)
I would add that Congresswoman Davis' voting record is absolutely abysmal:

*ZERO on civil liberties
*ZERO on gay rights
*ZERO on reproductive rights
*ZERO on the environment
*ZERO (or single digits) on family and children
*An "F" on foreign policy
*ZERO on stopping gun violence
*ZERO on disabled veterans

I could go on and on.  The point is, Jo Ann Davis is EXACTLY the type of Republican who needs to be replaced, ASAP.  And Shawn O'Donnell is exactly the type of Democrat to do it.  Go Shawn!

Good news indeed! (Bob Ulrich - 4/4/2006 11:29:54 PM)
Good news indeed!

Now if we can get someone to step up and run in the 7th against Cantor we'll be on our way to solid majority!

Josh: I agree. (Lowell - 4/4/2006 11:29:54 PM)
Josh:  I agree.

Hey Shawn, how about if Josh and I help run your campaign?  Ha ha. :) - Lowell

Shawn, you're my her (Josh - 4/4/2006 11:29:54 PM)
Shawn, you're my hero.

I'm moving to the first so I can vote for you.

A Democrat with a ba (Teddy - 4/4/2006 11:29:54 PM)
A Democrat with a backbone! A Democrat with a cutting tongue! How refreshing.  And he minces no words. Anyone in "his" District want to tell us how this will play among the voters there?

James Socas will cha (AlecBGreen - 4/4/2006 11:29:55 PM)
James Socas will challenge Wolf for the 10th.

The DCCC candidates (Bill Smith - 4/4/2006 11:29:55 PM)
The DCCC candidates page for Virginia has been updated to show that Shawn O'Donnell is opposing Jo Ann Davis. http://dccc.org/races/states/va/

I met Shawn at the S (Scott Nolan - 4/4/2006 11:29:55 PM)
I met Shawn at the Sunday Supper Club meeting in Warrenton last month, and he seemed very likeable and professional.  Right after the meeting I got online and searched for candidates in the 1st district and got the following list from either politics1 or DCCC:

Shawn O'Donnell (challenging Democrat)
Marvin Pixton III (challenging Independent Greens)
Carl Stephen Wolfe II (challenging Democrat)

So when I look today, I see that Carl Wolfe has dropped off politics1 and neither Wolfe nor Shawn appear on DCCC, does that mean Wolfe has dropped out, or that politics1 was just slow to update from the 2004 election?

Anyway, depending on which site you believe, there are either 4 or 6 seats held by incumbent Republicans that still have no announced challengers from the Democratic party!!!  We need to fix that in all cases!

I live in district 10 and I am ready and able to volunteer for anyone running against Frank Wolf.  Any takers?
