Over the past few days, RK ran a poll of who its readership supports for president.  The poll received 170 votes.  Here are the results, obviously unscientific but, I believe, indicative of the sentiment within the RK community.

Summary
Support Obama: 81.8%
Support Clinton: 10.0%
Support Edwards: 5.3%
Don't Know: 2.9%

I can't believe you left out Gravel (Chris Guy - 2/2/2008 3:44:10 PM)
sure he may not win, but he is auditioning for Secretary of Crazy in a potential Democratic administration.

Ha, I love that ad! (Lowell - 2/2/2008 3:44:49 PM)
Thanks for reminding me. :)

THAT, my friends (bpkybe - 2/2/2008 4:01:02 PM)
is a mandate. :)

Great video! (Lowell - 2/2/2008 6:38:59 PM)

Obama Statement on Striking UAW Local 2069 Workers (Lowell - 2/2/2008 6:40:57 PM)
I just received this press release...

Obama Statement on Striking UAW Local 2069 Workers

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama released the following statement in support of Dublin area UAW Local 2069 workers who have gone on strike against Volvo:

"I stand with the workers who are striking Volvo. The union's demands - job security, health benefits and safety protections - are basic guarantees that all workers should expect and that UAW members deserve. Volvo has a responsibility to work with the UAW so that union members can go back to work."

Just got back from the Mt. Vernon Dems (Rebecca - 2/2/2008 9:31:16 PM)
I went to the Mt. Vernon Dems Mardi Gras party to pick up some Obama bumper stickers. Seems like almost everybody there was for Hillary. I guess that was partly because the Hillary national headquarters is in Arlington and they sent over 95 people. Most are probably not Virginia residents, but their vote in the straw poll will give the appearance that every Democrats in Mt. Vernon supports Hillary. More politics by smoke and mirrors.

BTW I left shortly after arriving. Just couldn't stand being around that many Hillary buttons. I felt like these folks have been living on another planet.

Despite sending over 95 people, (Lowell - 2/2/2008 10:57:57 PM)
if that is indeed the case, I hear she only won it 100-80.

Connolly finishes third (Lowell - 2/2/2008 11:11:08 PM)
This is hilarious -- results from the Mt. Vernon straw poll:

Leslie Byrne 52%
Doug Denneny 22%
Gerry Connolly 13%
Lori Alexander 11%
Chris Ambrose 2%

Connolly finishes third behind Leslie Byrne and Doug Denneny? Apparently, that didn't please him:

Gerry Connolly just screamed "*EXPLICATIVE* DOUG DENNENY" as he left the party and then looked in horror when he realized others were standing outside smoking.

Ha, nice.

Just curious, Lowell (aznew - 2/2/2008 11:23:32 PM)
Are these results meaningful if Rebecca's report is correct?

I'm not sure how Rebecca's report (Lowell - 2/2/2008 11:28:33 PM)
would -- if it is true -- affect the 11th district congressional straw poll.  I mean, would HRC supporters be more likely to go for Byrne, Denneny, Connolly, Alexander?  Got me.

This is something I overheard at the party (Rebecca - 2/3/2008 2:27:04 PM)
I don't know for a fact that the National Hill headquarters sent over 95 people, but I overheard someone saying "The Hillary people are sending over 95 people". I deduced that over meant over from their national headquarters in Arlington. Otherwise, if they were from Mt. Vernon why would they have to be sent "over".

Anyway, if this is the case and they are sending over people to participate in all the NOVA straw polls then it could significantly affect the results. This then begs the question as to whether this type of "vote rigging" is an ethical practice since the straw polls are meant to estimate where the localities stand. not to mention that the same people could be voting over and over again.

"For early and often!!"

Wow! (Rebecca - 2/3/2008 2:20:15 PM)

Are you reporting facts, or supposition? (aznew - 2/2/2008 11:03:21 PM)
How do you know the Hillary supporters were from out of state? Did you speak to any Hillary supporters who were not Virginia residents?

Do you know for a fact that every Obama supporter was a Virginia resident?

P.S. I wasn't there, but had I been, I would have been wearing a Hillary button. And believe me, we're on the same planet. I have lived on Neptune my entire life.
