Getting it on the radio would be quite an achievement, but then again, you can do a whole hell of a lot with 30+ million dollars. :-)

It's kind of fascinating to me the way music is become entwined around politics.  Back in 2004 Eminem put out a track called "Mosh" that had sort of a militant/activist sound (the beat was supposed to remind you of marching boots) but it had basically the same message of "Yes We Can."

Come along, follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark that we need to proceed.
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength,
Come with me, and I won't steer you wrong.

"Yes We Can" wasn't as much of a "WOW!" inducing moment for me but I feel like it perhaps reinforces the notion that activism is becoming increasingly mainstream.  Music isn't just organized noise, after all--it's instinctual, it's internal, you get it stuck in your head because it comes from inside you.  And it's admittedly a little melodramatic to think this is a sign, but by the same token, it might be melodramatic to think that the fact that more people voted in 2004 when Eminem wrote Mosh, and this year we're consistently smashing Primary participation records over and over again within this Democratic Primary.  Maybe it doesn't mean anything, but then again, maybe it does.

(btw, if you never heard "Mosh," you can find a video on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... )

Yes We Can: Get Busy (hereinva - 2/2/2008 12:44:28 PM)
Time is Obama's biggest challenge. With the compact primary season..his campaign needs to reach as many people as possible in the short time. Time to GET BUSY.

It's interesting that the songwriter . . . (JPTERP - 2/2/2008 12:45:44 PM)
focuses on the New Hampshire speech -- the one given after a disappointing loss.  It took a while for Obama to pick up steam in the speech, but the last section had me on my feet -- and a few minutes later opening my wallet (again) for the campaign.  I understand quite a few people were equally moved -- more so perhaps than in the immediate aftermath of Iowa.  Quite a historic run.

A stark contrast (spotter - 2/2/2008 12:53:47 PM)
with Hillary Clinton's speech from Tennessee after she lost South Carolina.

This should definitely be (uva08 - 2/2/2008 4:58:32 PM)
cross posted on Daily Kos.  This is just a great video.

That was incredible. (RFKdem - 2/2/2008 5:22:36 PM)
40 years this country has yearned for someone to push us, inspire us, drive us to be a better people.

It's been a long time wandering in the desert, and I think we have found the man to lead us out.

According to my in-house expert (spotter - 2/2/2008 8:01:20 PM)
Black Eyed Peas, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Jason Mraz, Scarlet Johannsen, McDreamy's ex-wife from Grey's Anatomy, will i.am, Imogene Heap, the lead singer from the Pussycat Dolls, Calle 13, Nick Cannon, Run DMC's daughter, and the chick from West Wing.  No guarantee on the spelling; my teenager stayed just long enough to post the video on facebook, then went to the movies.  Seems like free popcorn would be a good prize.
