oh, there's nothing wrong with him.  I think he's terrific.  In fact, with Edwards out of the race, he is the only possible choice for me.   But here's the thing -

I don't want to jinx him.   Seriously.   Consider my track record

1984 I supported Fritz Hollings, even volunteered for him - he died in NH

1988 I did support Dukakis, he got the nomination, but blew a 17 point lead

1992 I supported Tsongas, who despite winning NH saw Clinton claim victory

2000 I was originally a Bradley supporter. . .

2004 I was heavily involved with Dean. . .

and in this cycle, I endorsed Vilsack and within three weeks he was toast.   Then I finally commit to Edwards, posting a diary on January 23, only to see him effectively pull out one week later.

So I ask all you Obama supporters, do you REALLY want my support?

Well, I have really bad news for you. . .

Whether or not you want it, you got it.

And I sure hope this time I am NOT a jinx.

SO THERE.   YES WE CAN.   SI SE PUEDE.

and Peace.

I hope you are not disappointed! (teacherken - 1/31/2008 6:07:02 AM)

I support the man with pleasure.  I will be glad to explain the particulars.

But I do worry, given my track record!

Peace.

You totally had me, right to the last line (snolan - 1/31/2008 7:54:56 AM)
hook, line, and sinker....  I am so gullible.

You rawk, thanks for making me smile this morning.

I'm Going to Sit in a Corner Now (AnonymousIsAWoman - 1/31/2008 10:21:30 AM)
Since my track record is about equal to yours, I think I'm just going to stuff a gag in my mouth, sit on my hands, and go sit in a corner and not jinx anything.

Ok, just kidding :)  And thanks for the morning laugh.

i have a couple Obama yard signs (pvogel - 1/31/2008 10:23:57 AM)
You may grab them right from my yard

You made me laugh, Ken! (Don Wells - 1/31/2008 12:13:34 PM)
Thanks so much for this diary.  I laughed with delight as I read it.  I guessed the punch line well in advance, because I saw your pattern, which matched my own pattern fairly closely.

Now he'll lose for sure! (thegools - 1/31/2008 7:26:33 PM)
Just kidding, but I think he has a fair shot at losing with or without all the endorsements.  I am simply not convinced that, given the long wait between the primaries and the general election, he will stand up to and stay strong against the inevitable mud.

With so little record to stand on, he really is easily painted as a light-weight (fairly or unfairly).  Yeah, I know he was in the Illinois senate, but really do you think the general public gives a flip about being a state legislator?....governor- sure, but state legislator....nah.  Add to that the bunch of "present" votes and that experience works against him.

Then of course he has been in the US Senate since 2005  (barely 3 years), much of which he has missed because he has been running for president.  That sort of stuff doesn't look good.  (Does anyone remember how John Edwards was tarnished for missing a year of Senate duties...while running for the presidency in 2004.)
By the way the comparison between Obama and JFK is hard for me to swallow.  JFK was a a US congressman for 6 years and then a US Senator for 8.   Again, Obama has been in US government BARELY 3 years (at best).

(BO Senate) 3 yrs ? 8 yrs + 6 yrs (JFK Congress + Senate)

I wish Obama well. He seems like a nice guy and well intentioned, but the road ahead is a tough one, and there is a lot of time between now and November.
