New Democrats (Bernie Quigley - 1/29/2008 7:31:01 AM)
Excellent coverage and placing - Webb and Obama. When I first wrote about Jim Webb I was using Strauss & Howe's generational formula and claiming a new generation was at hand and that Jim Webb was a "Monkey King" starting a new Democratic generation. As per Kennedy's speech yesterday the contours of the New Democrats can now be seen and a GENERATIONAL division is clear: Obama, Webb, Mark Warner, Kathleen Sebelius and the Gray Champion, Ted Kennedy with neice Caroline. On the other hand - the waning generation, The Clintons.

Good statement on Iraq and Washington, weak on the economy (Kindler - 1/29/2008 11:32:14 PM)
Obama has mastered his messages on the war and on our political stalemate, but with the economy going down the toilet, he needs to polish his message on that subject.  All I heard here was tax cuts, which is the same voodoo economics that we've been getting for the past 8 years.

Fine, Obama wants middle-class as opposed to upper-class tax cuts, but I've always considered giving away free money (without saying what programs you're going to cut to fill the gap) to be better politics than policy.

I'm not trying to go after Obama here -- I'm basically in his camp at this point -- but I just think that with the economy becoming issue #1 in the voters' minds, it's time for him to shift his message a bit to propose some serious answers to this developing crisis.
