GILMORE LAUDS REPEAL OF THE ABUSIVE-DRIVER FEES
Alexandria -- Former Governor Jim Gilmore issued a short statement commending the Virginia General Assembly for their vote yesterday repealing the excessive driver fees that had been enacted last July, in an effort to use the Justice System to generate revenues:

"Repealing these excessive driver fees is a first step in beginning to address the fact that Virginia's working families are already financially over burdened and that the enactment of tax increases disguised as fees is not the way to move forward in a time of economic uncertainty."

I love it, former Gov. Gilmore calling out Del. Dave Albo for his sneaky "tax increase," disguised as a "fee" on so-called "abusive" drivers.  "Sneaky" and "Albo": two words that go together well.  On Tuesday, for example, Albo voted to repeal the very abuser fees that he had vociferously championed in the name of "public safety."  Why did Albo flip flop?  Because he saw the error of his ways?  Because, as "Albo Must Go" writes, "he [now] thinks abuser fees are actually bad public policy?"  Nope.  Albo's vote wasn't based on principle at all, it was based on craven political (mis)calculation.  Just like the rest of the (mostly Republican) delegates who touted these "fees" (aka, "taxes") for much of the past year, but then voted to dump the things after watching the public turn strongly against them.  Republican Profiles in Courage, led by Dave Albo!

Tsk, tsk... (agscribe - 1/24/2008 7:29:06 AM)
A U.S. senator at least ought to get his grammar in order.

Governor Jim Gilmore issued a short statement commending the Virginia General Assembly for their vote yesterday

The noun "Assembly" is singular. The pronoun "their" is plural. They should agree.

Another mistake (Lowell - 1/24/2008 7:32:24 AM)
"Over burdened" should actually be one word, "overburdened."  Perhaps bashing a fellow Republican has Jim Gilmore feeling ab it "overburdened" these days?  Haha.
