Well tough crap for you!
The Bush Administration and its cronies don't care if you want to do any good for your community or your country. Opportunities in this country are at the mercy of behemoth corporations and the conservative agenda where people only care about themselves, and anyone with a social conscience need not apply.
The conservatives' goal apparently is to bankrupt people financially while bankrupting them ethically as well. They want to force you to play ball with them, to be forced to work for them once you run out of money or have no other choice to take care of your family. "Compassionate" people that they are, the conservatives have provided ample opportunities for you to do so. For instance, conservatives might advise that:
You can join the armed forces: but we don?t know how long you will be deployed, and while you're off fighting who knows about health care for your children and the mortgage on your house. Whoops, you may be out of luck if our oil profits dip below $10 billion per quarter. Hey, just because you're doing your job, getting us the cheap oil from the Middle East, you can't expect us to hold up our end of the bargain, now can you?
You can work for Pharmaceutical companies: but just remember that we aren't in the business of "curing" anything, just giving people new reasons to medicate for whatever ailments they may or may not have. Hey, it is up to the doctors to write the prescriptions, not us, right? (wink-wink).
You can work for Wal-Mart: but remember that if locked in the store overnight you'd better keep working, and no crazy ideas like unionizing or overtime pay; hey we have to keep our prices low to create profits for our stockholders, don't we?
You can work for the oil companies: but remember that you must never be under oath at Congressional hearings when they start cross examining you about your exorbitant profits while everyone else in America is struggling. Also, don't forget that global warming is a sham fabricated by communistic scientists and eco-terrorists. Oh, and make sure you don't tell anyone that we actually CAN get off oil if we try. Shhhhhhhh.
Don't like these options? Well then, there is one thing you CAN and MUST do. You CAN and MUST campaign for candidates who will reverse the horrible impacts of the conservative agenda. You can and must help candidates who will move America forward, instead of letting it sink into a pit of scandal, corporate welfare, and cronyism. If we all do that, together we can get America back on the right track. If we all do that, we can help make it possible for people to make careers out of helping our country. And if we all do that, at the end of the day, we can defeat the conservatives and strengthen the progressives, making a better life for all of us!
