Clinton "tears" much ado about nothing.

Clearly Senator Clinton showed signs of emotion, but to call it tearing up puts quite a spin on things.

I'm not Hillary fan - but this is really much ado about nothing.  I am really discusted that the media is playing this up.  Talk about spin!

Don't follow (relawson - 1/8/2008 9:06:26 AM)
Should I feel insulted?

I have no idea what Gordie's (Lowell - 1/8/2008 9:12:12 AM)
talking about.  The more I watch it, the more I find the "Hillary gets choked up" video to be very strange.  Also, did you see Olbermann blast Hillary for her comments on MLK and LBJ?  It was really harsh.

I think everyone perceives it differently (relawson - 1/8/2008 10:37:38 AM)
Personally, I didn't see weakness in this or a "Clinton breakup".  My hunch is that this may be been planned on her part in order to soften her image.  But that's just wild speculation.  If it was planned, it may have backfired.

I am good at reading honesty in people.  Her eyes and facial expressions appear to "tattle" - meaning go to the right.  But, that could also be because the person she is talking to is to her right.  I do OK at poker by reading people.  But, without the big picture (like the position of the person she is speaking to) it's tough to read too much into this.

I'm a cynic when it comes to some people - especially Hillary Clinton.  That said, I think the media will make way too much out of this.  It really is a non-story.

I do not want to insult you (Gordie - 1/8/2008 1:02:11 PM)
I keep it short so I would not insult you.

It is meant that if you have never felt emotional about something and almost felt like you could cry; then I am sorry that your emotions never experienced such a human factor of our being human.

I don't disagree (relawson - 1/8/2008 1:41:39 PM)
The point of my post is that the media is or will make more out of this than they should.  Nothing wrong that there are signs of life from Hillary Clinton, as long as she is genuine.

My feeling is that she tries too hard and is not being herself.  She doesn't want to come across as weak or soft, so she has put on this facade of someone who is tough as nails.

Some people thought that instead of tough, she came across as cold and calculated.  Anything for a vote.  Not a dollar she won't accept.

So here she may be trying to warm up to people, but she goes too far the other way.

My advice to Hillary Clinton: be yourself.  You aren't cold as ice.  And you aren't an emotional basket case.  Just be yourself and you shouldn't get into political trouble.

I think Huckabee is dumb as a rock.  But people like him because he is genuine (or at least appears to be).  If Hillary were genuine - or at least came across that way - she would be doing much better in the polls.

Yes, but (tx2vadem - 1/8/2008 4:48:55 PM)
How much of this is having to live up to societal expectations on gender roles?  I think you are totally discounting how difficult it is to be a female executive or to aspire to be one.

The Way (Gordie - 1/8/2008 5:43:38 PM)
the media has been bashing Hillary the last 2 months and every chance they can find a story to bash her, I did not take your post to mean the media is giving her a break. From what I heard on CNN and MSNBC they certainly were not spinning for her with the emotional scene. What I heard was more bashing.

It is one of the reasons I am discusted with this blog. I certainly appreciate all the Obama spin on this blog, but I cannot understand all the negative spin against another Democrat. As of today Obama looks to be the Democratic Choice, but the media can turn on him just as fast as they did against Hillary and in fact Dean in 2004, pushing Kerry into the nomination.

And this blog with over 200,000 "Lookers" will not stand a chance in out spinning the media. So go have your fun, but as I have said before "Watch what you Wish(spin) for".

I'll venture a guess (tx2vadem - 1/8/2008 10:49:47 AM)
as to Gordie's comment.  When you say that saying she teared up puts quite a spin on things sounds like you are challenging the authenticity of her emotions.  That may not have been your intention, but it can come across that way.

As to the media, this is what they do.  They are obsessed with everything that Hillary does and they pick everything she does apart.  If it isn't this, it's her clothes, or her hair style, or her laugh, or the particular inflection in her voice, or her choice of words, or her the emphasis she places in her sentences.  The media's focus on Hillary is the same as tabloid's focus on Hollywood celebrities.  Just as Lohan and Spears are the favorite punching bags of the gossip rags, Hillary is the favorite punching bag of more reputable media establishments.

Tears of joy? (relawson - 1/8/2008 9:55:26 PM)
Looks like my theory of "tears" hurting Clinton may not be the case.  The votes aren't counted yet, but she is doing very well in NH.

Yes, She Won NH (Gordie - 1/9/2008 12:55:56 AM)
America is built on Emotions of Love, emotions of Hurt and emotions of Joy, so it wold not make sense, that emotions would damage someone who shows emotions. It hurts in a mans view, but never a womans. Especially the type she displayed goes over with women.

But, this Obama Iowa victory was completely over hiped. I watched that election till about 75 percent of polling, so I went to bed think it was a 1% difference between the 3 candidates. When I woke and found Obama won by 8 percent it took a while to find out what happened and what happened was the reason I hate Caucuses. The second vote of those under 15 percent. And when I read a precinit caption explain that Richardson said to throw his votes to Obama, just so he could stay alive for another weeks showing in NH suxed.

Iowa, I hate your caucus. It may be fine for state elections, but it is no good for Presidential elections. We might as well go back to smoke filled rooms and elect our Nominee that way.
