A New Journey

As we look forward to 2008, there is no question that the new year will offer Americans an opportunity for momentous change.  This is especially true in Virginia and the 10th congressional district.  Our newly elected leaders are going to have to tackle difficult and troubling issues and change the dangerous direction this country has taken these past seven years.  I entered this race because I believe my lifelong experience helping to solve urgent problems-both in the military and in the national non-profit community-will enable me to be an effective and dynamic advocate for the residents of the 10th congressional district.
The upcoming campaign offers all of us an exciting chance to get engaged on the tough challenges facing our district.  I plan to blog regularly about current events, my campaign, and the issues important to all of us.  If you'd like to know where I stand, send me an e-mail and ask.  I'm more than happy to discuss anything on the minds of voters as together we chart our way through this election year.  I believe we must have the courage to challenge the conventional wisdom in search of real solutions.  I also believe that Democrats have an opportunity to demonstrate to voters that it is possible to have a spirited, thought-provoking debate about any issue without demonizing those among us who disagree.  And I believe deeply that the job of governing is the art of finding common ground.  Elected representatives must serve as advocates for their constituents not as stamps for their party leaders.

I invite everyone here to join me in a shared New Year's resolution:  This year we resolve to stay informed and stay involved, not six months from now but today!  Successful elections require this of both candidates and voters at every step of the journey.  And what an incredible journey this one promises to be.

Happy New Year!

Mike
