You Are Stupid. The Arlington Sun Gazette Is Smart.

Despite five letters to the editor in support of the Arlington County Board's resolution opposing Dominion's proposed Wise County coal-fired power plant, the Arlington Sun Gazette will not be swayed:
THUMBS DOWN: To the end-of-the-year stunt pulled by County Board members, passing a resolution condemning construction of a coal-fired power plant in Wise County, which is located 400 miles from Arlington.

First, we doubt whether any of the County Board members has enough understanding of this nuanced matter to cast an intelligent vote. And second, we think that a county government with so many problems of its own (running out of money to pay for school construction, the 17-year debacle of the Cherrydale fire station, etc.) has any business sticking its nose where it clearly does not belong.

This is just another reason Arlington's elected officials are looked on with derision by serious-minded political and business leaders statewide.

I couldn't love this editorial any more. It's pure, fact-ignoring, alternate-reality-creating, conservative gold.

1) Anything that the County Board does in December is henceforth an end-of-the-year stunt. No, wait. Let's include November, too. Also the end of October.
2) The County Board is dumb. So are you. Smart? Sun Gazette Editor Scott McCaffrey. Other Republicans. Josh Ruebner too since he runs against Democrats a lot. That's it.
3)"Serious-minded" = "people who do whatever big business tells them to". FYI. Oh, did I mention McCaffrey is on the Board of Directors of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce? I'm just sayin'.

The Sun-Gazette, as (Sui Juris - 12/31/2007 2:11:32 PM)
has been pointed out by many many people, is an embarrassment.  And not just to Scott McCaffrey (who is apparently the editor/reporter/waste-basket emptier over there), but to Arlington.  Seriously, I think that the owners of that paper must have just forgotten about it, and Scott uses it as something of personal fantasy factory.

Wise County is not Mars (Kindler - 1/1/2008 11:55:23 AM)
Let's see, Wise County is 400 miles from Arlington. So, does that mean that:

1) Climate change fueled by carbon emissions from the plant won't impact Arlington?
2) Air pollutants from the plant can't travel to Arlington? (Remember, we get air pollution drifting in from places like Ohio sometimes.)
3) Ratepayers and taxpayers in other parts of the state will be exempt from liability once Congress passes cap and trade legislation that makes this plant obsolete?

The only way I can see all of this being true is if Virginia employs the strategy of the Simpsons Movie and encases Wise County in a very large bubble...
