Speaking of "Lost His Mind"

Over at NLS, Ben asks whether Del. Dave Albo (R-Abuser Fees) has "lost his mind."  It seems that Albo, not content with the damage he did last year, now "has introduced a bill that includes JAIL TIME for people unable to pay his abuser fees."  Yeah, that's pretty stupid.

But wait, there's more!

Believe it or not, as discussed at ChangeServant, Dave Albo (and his sidekick Tom Rust) are proposing "mandatory arrest, fingerprint and photograph requirement to everyone caught driving without a valid license regardless of circumstance."

But wait, there's even MORE!

In addition to mandatory arrest and fingerprinting and photographing, the Rust/Albo proposal, HB 104, also mandates that the officer who arrests you impound your car for 30 days on a first offense.

[...]

Under the Rust/Albo proposal, however, the officer will have to impound the vehicle of any person caught driving without a license. That includes your family car if your teen is out for a ride with his learner's permit without an adult in the car. And, you might be able to get it back before the 30 days are up if you can prove to a judge that you didn't know that the kid had the car and that it is your only car and having it impounded for 30 days would cause your family a hardship.

Apparently, this is not a joke.  Del. Bob Marshall (R-Outer Space) even proposes "that anyone caught driving without a license twice in three years forfeit his vehicle (or the vehicle of another person who knew he was driving it) to the state."

Sadly, it just goes on and on like this in Virginia Republican bizarro world.  Ben asks if Dave Albo has "lost his mind."  I'd amend that and ask whether elected Virginia Republicans more broadly have all lost their marbles.

Not (leftofcenter - 12/28/2007 9:18:54 AM)
to worry-this will go down in flames.

These guys art nuts.

What's Wrong with this Picture? (spotter - 12/28/2007 9:28:01 AM)
Dave Albo ran unopposed, with no Democratic opponent.  As the Hampton Roads election results show, it is shortsighted and wrong to write off any race as unwinnable.  The voters deserve a real choice. Don't underestimate them.

obviously, these guys (Sui Juris - 12/28/2007 9:57:58 AM)
are soft on crime.  Some legislator ought to say that while proposing the death penalty for the same offense.

Y'all are behind the curve on this Albo stuff (afausser - 12/28/2007 10:27:56 AM)
Even more Albo news coming next week :)

Albo defines what's "un-American" (Lowell - 12/28/2007 2:23:43 PM)
with regard to smoking.  This Albo quote, from the Moonie Times, is a classic:

"If the restaurant guys and ladies want to be regulated, I think something could be done," said Delegate David B. Albo, Fairfax Republican. "Until then, you have the same problems with these bills we have had for years: It is un-American to come into someone's restaurant or bar and tell them what to do with their family business."

That's right, Albo doesn't just DISAGREE with anti-smoking laws in restaurants, he believes they're UN-AMERICAN!  What a lunatic.

Yep, Albo made it onto FARK.com (Catzmaw - 12/28/2007 6:43:25 PM)
An article about his antics received a "dumbass" label in the December 26th edition of FARK.com.  Thanks for making the Commonwealth look so great, Albo.

This is just the kind of Republican behavior .... (Dianne - 12/29/2007 9:13:41 AM)
that needs to be attached to them (Republicans...not just Albo) and broadcast as widely as possible in Virginia.  It's not just Albo, it's other Republicans too who think like this and submit legislation that is cruel, vicious, and domineering.  I'd bet that Virginians, if they knew of these shenanigans and could relate to how it just might affect them, their family and friends would reject Republicans on a dime!

Quit associating behavior like this with one or two of them.  Lay it on them as a Party and associate those "values" with Republicans.

That's how we'll get the delegates and senators we need to turn Virginia blue and sensible!
