Obama has opened up big leads against all potential Rep., nominees according to polls published by NBC News/The Wall Street Journal and Zogby.  Here are the numbers:

***OBAMA STRONGEST AGAINST ALL REPUBLICANS (Zogby)--

Obama 47% McCain 43%

Obama 48% Giuliani 39%

Obama 53% Romney 35%

Clinton 42% McCain 49%

Clinton 42% Giuliani 46%

Clinton 46% Romney 44%

Edwards 42% McCain 42%

Edwards 44% Giuliani 43%

Edwards 44% Romney 42%

NBC News/Wall Street Journal

Obama 49% Giuliani 40% (+9)
Clinton 46% Giuliani 43% (+3)

Obama 48% Huckabee 36% (+12)
Clinton 46% Huckabee 44% (+2)

Obama, in both polls, is leading his Rep., rivals by far greater margins than Hillary Clinton, indicating Obama would be the stronger nominee against any Republican.

In the NBC New/Wall Street Journal Poll, Clinton bests Giuliani by 3 points (46-43 percent) and Huckabee by 2 points (46-44 percent).Yet Obama leads Giuliani by 9 points (49-40 percent) and Huckabee by 12 points (48-36 percent), respectively. The reason Obama fares better in these match-ups is because of independents - they side with Obama but against Clinton.
Attached are the polls.

McCain ahead of Obama and Clinton in one poll (PM - 12/23/2007 2:18:23 PM)

I know it's Fox, but it does have a 900 voter sample.  McCain is ahead of Clinton by 5, Obama by 4.  Both Clinton and Obama whip Huckabee by 9.  The polling was done Dec. 18-19.

I'll tell you, I think McCain (right now) is going to be the nominee and it will be a very very close race, assuming he can hold up physically.
