Obama, Clinton in Dead Heat in New Hampshire

Check out the latest poll from New Hampshire:

Barack Obama has come from behind to turn the Democratic presidential race in New Hampshire into a toss-up, according to a new Monitor opinion poll. The results - which show Obama with a one-point edge over Hillary Clinton - mirror other polls released this week, indicating that Clinton's once-imposing lead has evaporated in the run-up to New Hampshire's Jan. 8 primary.

This is looking like a nail biter with just 20 days until the Iowa caucuses.  Will something come along, some factor, to break the race open?  A gaffe or major endorsement, perhaps?  For example, we haven't heard from our favorite Nobel Peace Prize winner yet.  Hmmmm.

P.S. In other news, NLS reports that several candidates are having trouble getting on the ballot in Virginia.  The deadline for filing petition signatures is today at 5 pm.  Should be interesting.

Iowa (DanG - 12/14/2007 3:37:18 PM)
All comes down to Iowa, were the numbers are pretty volatile.  Whoever wins Iowa will get a big enoughb bounce to carry him/her through NH, SC, and NV.

I love Al Gore (Silence Dogood - 12/14/2007 4:41:32 PM)
But Nelson Mandela is still my favorite Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Good call (DanG - 12/14/2007 5:38:16 PM)
I must say I agree, but I like Tutu a lot as well.

Obama endorced by major northcountry NH paper (Bernie Quigley - 12/14/2007 5:13:46 PM)
Obama was also endorsed today by the Littleton, NH, newspaper, the major New Hampshire paper above the southern NH cities.

One new Iowa poll -- Obama up by 9% (PM - 12/14/2007 5:17:42 PM)

The new Research 2000 poll of Iowa gives Barack Obama a healthy lead in the caucus, at 33% support, with Hillary Clinton and John Edwards tied at 24% each. On the Republican side, Mike Huckabee leads with 31%, followed by Mitt Romney at 22%, with nobody else breaking into the double digits.

A separate poll from Hotline/Diageo puts Obama and Hillary at 27% each, with Edwards at 22%. On the Republican side, Huckabee has 36% to Romney's 23%.

Another poll (Fox) has Hillary up by 9 in NH (PM - 12/14/2007 5:29:18 PM)
A new FOX News poll from Dec. 11-13 of 500 likely Democratic primary voters in New Hampshire showed her with 34 percent, over Obama with 25 percent and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards with 15 percent.

Volatile polls.  Fox acknowledges the other polls showing a statistical tie.

All comes down to Iowa (DanG - 12/14/2007 5:29:54 PM)
Whichever of them wins Iowa will get a big enough boost to win the others as well.

Yes - Fox poll is bogus. (Bernie Quigley - 12/14/2007 5:35:32 PM)
Fox is staking its whole tired future on some one of their nostalgico Franko-like fascists running against Hillary. Obama vs. Huckabee ruins everything.

a nail biter indeed. (summercat - 12/14/2007 5:31:48 PM)
it seems wrong to me that these 2 elections control a whole race, but there you have it.
I doubt Gore will endorse.  Difficulties between him and the Clintons for years, I believe--but I can't see him going for anyone else either.
I have to say that, in honor of Wes Clark, I support Hillary.  Sure wish Clark or Mark Warner were in the race, tho.
