Good Stuff I'm Hearing about Phil Forgit

With the CD-01 special election just 3 days away, here's what I'm hearing:

*Today (Saturday), Governor Tim Kaine will host a fundraiser with guests from across CD-1 to benefit Democratic candidate Philip Forgit.  The event is at 11:30 am at the Three Olives Restaurant, 1203 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA.

*Tomorrow (Sunday) at 1:30 PM, Delegate Brian J. Moran, House Democratic Caucus Chairman, and State Senator-elect Chap Petersen will host a Get Out The Vote rally for Philip at the Forgit for Congress offices in Fredericksburg (30 Town and Country Drive).

*On Monday at 2 PM, former Governor Mark Warner will headline a Get Out The Vote rally for Philip at the Forgit for Congress offices in Newport News (2 Hidenwood Shopping Center).

*I'm hearing that things are going extremely well with phonebanks for Phil.  Volunteers are making lots of calls and getting a great response.  I haven't heard any news from the northern part of CD-1 (anyone care to chime in?), but at least in the southern half of the district, the energy and enthusiasm for Philip appears to be very high.

*I'm also hearing from Democratic activists in CD-1 that we definitely have a shot at picking up this seat (one comments, "regardless of what the naysayers at the DCCC think").  The Republicans may have more money, but Democrats have the grassroots energy and the will to win.  People are feeling hopeful, having fun, and spreading the word to all their Democratic friends that they need to vote for Phil.  The way politics should be, in other words.

Agreed, Lowell... (cycle12 - 12/8/2007 10:01:38 AM)
In my many discussions with constitutional officers in the 1st CD over the past few days, there is definitely a sense of victory building for Phil Forgit there.

These RK updates, videos, etc. are much appreciated and will be a key factor in Forgit's election.

We're certainly doing our best for him way down here in the 6th and 9th CDs...

Thanks!

10 to 1 (layaly4samrasoul2008 - 12/8/2007 12:26:21 PM)
We have made about 2000 phone calls for the Forgit campaign so far, and the Forgit supporters are up 10 to 1 over the republican challenger.

These calls are targeted to Democrats, right? (Lowell - 12/8/2007 12:29:46 PM)
If so, that helps explain the 10:1 ratio.

GOTV, Democrats! (cycle12 - 12/8/2007 12:39:07 PM)
Good point, Lowell, and in a predictably low turnout election, these calls to our Democratic base are particularly important.

Just ask Creigh Deeds...

Thanks!

Steve

How does the DCCC feel about this: (Chris Guy - 12/8/2007 3:35:24 PM)
John Boehner is stumping for Wittman in Virginia, instead of Latta in his home state of Ohio!

Although in the DCCC's defense, this race is being largely ignored by the national blogosphere as well...

How is it a defense of the DCCC (Lowell - 12/8/2007 3:46:03 PM)
to say that the national blogosphere is ignoring the race too?  That's a whole other issue...

Maybe the R's think (Ron1 - 12/8/2007 3:57:15 PM)
that Boehner's fake tan will sell better in the sun belt-ish 1st.

Boehner is a disaster -- I'd bet he's beatable with the right candidate. I don't blame Latta one bit for telling him to stay the heck away. Of course, Latta is a disaster as well, it looks like.

I'm going to do some phoning tomorrow and hopefully Monday night -- maybe we can shock the establishment.

Daily Press endorsement - what a surprise!!! (lgb30856 - 12/8/2007 9:40:29 PM)
Special election
Tuesday, a Forgit vote keeps the 1st District a Peninsula district
December 8, 2007
.
As the sun began to rise Friday, all three men running for the 1st District seat in Congress were shaking hands with workers at the gates of the Northrop Grumman shipyard in Newport News. It was dark. It was frigid. And it was the right place to be.

Not just because the thousands of workers -- potential voters -- passing through the gates are a captive line for glad-handing. But because the big shipyard represents the economic heart of the district.

Gerrymandered beyond reason, the 1st District stretches from this industrial waterfront through Williamsburg, the Middle Peninsula and the Northern Neck, into the outer Washington suburbs north of Fredericksburg. What community of interest binds the urban-suburban southern end with the rural northern end is a mystery left behind when the state legislature drew this map.

But that mystery is embodied in the choice voters have Tuesday in the election to succeed the late Rep. Jo Ann Davis. The Republican, Rob Wittman, is from rural Westmoreland County. The Democrat, Philip Forgit, is from the Peninsula. So is the independent, Lucky Narain
