Obama Steps Up To Help Forgit In VA-01

One of the reasons I'm supporting  Senator Barack Obama for President is his knowledge of real grassroots organizing.   With the final days of the Special Election race in Virginia's 1st District upon us, my request to his campaign office for an endorsement of Phil Forgit did not go unanswered or get put off, it got done.

Senator Obama stepping up to help in Virginia's 1st district is more proof that he and his campaign are working to reach out and build the Democratic party in even "safe Republican" congressional districts in places that are not even in the early primary states like Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada.

Senator Obama knows that grassroots work can, and often does, result in unexpected victories.  Tuesday, Virginia 1st voters go to the polls where our Democratic candidate has a real opportunity to win and I respect Obama's willingness to reach out and help make it happen.

The following is an email the Obama Campaign is sending out to supporters across Virginia asking them to help directly.   In VA-01 itself 914 Obama supporters have been contacted directly to help and get out and vote Tuesday.  Every vote counts!

Dear Friend,

Time is running out for you to make an impact in a special election in Virginia for a Representative in Congress, which will be held this Tuesday, December 11th.

A solid Democratic candidate, Phil Forgit, has stepped up to take on the fight in this traditionally Republican district.

Phil Forgit is an Iraq War veteran and a Bronze Star recipient; as a Naval Reservist, he was mobilized to serve from his former job as a 4th grade teacher. His service at home and abroad makes him uniquely suited to bring change to Washington.

It's a tough race, but if we're going to change this country, we have to be ready to stand up for our principles everywhere.

There's no time to waste -- here's what you can do:

* Contact other Obama supporters in Virginia's 1st Congressional District to encourage them to get involved now and get to their polling place on Tuesday. You can make calls from home using the My.BarackObama.com phone banking tool:

http://my.barackobama.com/...

* Donate to Phil Forgit's campaign to help fund get-out-the-vote operations:

* If you're in the area, find local campaign events on the Forgit campaign web site, including events with Governor Tim Kaine and former Governor Mark Warner:

One of the most inspiring things about the movement we've created together is that it's bigger than a presidential campaign.

We've brought new people into the political process, and we're proving that a new model of grassroots campaigning works. The ground support we are building now will impact races up and down the ballot for a generation.

Right now, you have the opportunity to make a difference -- to impact this election, to strengthen our party, and to build the broader movement for change.

Please join us in taking action.

Thank you,

Barack

Obama.....Best Grassroots Campaign (Lee Diamond - 12/7/2007 4:47:34 PM)
From what I can tell.....and I have been to New Hampshire.......Barack Obama is running the best grassroots campaign of all the candidates.  If he wins the nomination, this will tie in very nicely with the work that Howard Dean & Co. have been doing at the DNC.  Under Obama's leadership, the Democratic Party will reach out energetically to all Americans.  Party identification and membership will increase significantly.  Turnout will also go up.  Barack Obama is all around good.......excellent for the Democratic Party and for America.......more about America and foreign policy in my next installment.

In NY too (Shawn - 12/7/2007 5:10:37 PM)
I've heard from New York folks that only HRC and Obama got the required signatures on petitions in each of their cd's .... and they did it with volunteers too

When are you headed to South Carolina?
