Fairfax Tomorrow

Fairfax Tomorrow appears to be a new player in the Tysons/Dulles Metro effort, according to a Washington Post article this past Sunday.  (Lowell also has a post on this article).
Tysons Corner property owners along the route of the long-sought extension of Metrorail to Dulles International Airport have created a coalition to launch a public campaign to secure federal funding for the project and increase development in the area.

The consortium, called Tysons Tomorrow, will include as many as 20 landowners poised to develop a new city of high-rises around the four Metro stops planned for Tysons. The emergence of the group, which held its first meeting last week...

But wait a second.  Where have I heard that name before?  Fairfax Tomorrow...  Fairfax Tomorrow...  I got it!

Seems that this new coalition, which held it's first meeting last week, was alive and kicking back in June and had a lot to say about the Providence Supervisor's primary between Charlie Hall and Linda Smyth.  Or, more specifically, they said the current supervisor (Smyth - although she was never specifically named) was doing a great job.  And they threw in a bunch of feel-good babble to support their point.  Check out the mailer link above and on the flip.
With heavy support/backing from the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce and a whopping membership of nearly 20 wealthy land owners, it's pretty clear why this coalition had it out for Charlie Hall: He wasn't going to roll over for them like Team Connolly will.

Most citizens are in favor of improving our transportation problems and should be looking to projects like Dulles Rail for relief and improvement.  But the more we learn about this effort the more it's looking like a project just to make a bunch of rich folks even richer.  And now they've got a new old coalition to make sure that happens.

Welcome to the world of Fairfax County politics (Hiker Joe - 12/4/2007 2:27:01 PM)
under Gerry Connolly's reign.  Fake citizen interest groups.  Fake citizen task forces.  All intended to support wealthy landowners and developers and well funded by them.

And don't forget mudslinging and character assassination. Witness the this year's democratic primary for Providence District Supervisor.

I take issue with their usage of the "[locality] Tomorrow" construction.

grumble grumble...
