Polling Indicates Forgit Can Win; Warner and Kaine to Help Him Do So

Believe it or not, there are now just 9 days to go until the special election in the 1st congressional district between Phil Forgit (D) and Rob Wittman (R).  An update from the Forgit campaign is on the "flip."

In other news, I'm hearing that a poll taken at the start of the race indicated that, after biographies were compared, voters in the 1st CD supported Forgit over Wittman by a 45%-44% margin.

I'm also hearing that Gov. Kaine and former Gov. Warner are planning to stump for Forgit in coming days.  Finally, the Forgit campaign is trying to get Wittman to commit to a debate about Iraq and military issues, but Wittman seems to have gone AWOL (in other words, Wittman is ducking debates).

The bottom line is this: Forgit can win this race and he's working hard to do just that.  Meanwhile, Wittman is pretty much hiding (except from his lobbyist buddies).  Forgit just needs to get his message and his bio out there.  You can help him do so by contributing or by volunteering.  Thanks.

P.S. As of the third quarter, the DCCC had $28 million cash on hand, compared to under $2 million for the NRCC.  Uh, guys?  I think it's time to unload $100,000 or $200,000 in Virginia's 1st CD!

This weekend Philip Forgit hit the road in Warrenton, Spotsylvania County and Fredericksburg to rally voters who want to see real leadership in Washington. There are lots of good photos from the campaign on Philip's Flickr site.

During the Warrenton Parade, Phiip walked up to a large group of people on the Courthouse steps and shouted, "HEY! I'm Philip Forgit and I'm running for Congress. I'm an Iraq war veteran - I just came back from helping Iraqi's vote. 80% of Iraqi's came out to vote and they had to worry about car bombs. What do you have to worry about? Come out and vote on December 11th!" At first people were surprised but then they started clapping (and we hope on Dec 11, they will be voting).

In Spotsylvania County, Philip met with voters and even stopped to help people carry bags of leaves down to the curb - this photo was not staged. Philip just likes to get things done.

In Fredericksburg, Philip made friends with folks in the crowd who walked with him for the entire parade. He strode up and down the parade lines, shaking hands and giving out over 750 candy canes.

This election is all going to be about turnout and on a tuesday in December anything can happen.

Next weekend the Virginia Young Democrats are having an invasion to help out the campaign in the last weekend - you can rsvp to join them here - VAYD Invasion

to get precincts in order. can't do it alone folks. my people are great but the others that talk the talk need to commit to help.

After Bios (NGB - 12/2/2007 8:31:24 PM)
Is the key to the polling there.  After bio's is almost always a false read.  If they gave out initial trial heat info that was as tight as the after bio's, the DCCC would be all-in here.

Can't fly back from Japan to help out with the ground game, but I just hit my credit card for $500. Get out and win this thing!

Time for another upset! (True Blue - 12/2/2007 11:24:54 PM)

I have received at least (thegools - 12/3/2007 12:04:02 AM)
five nice mailings from Wittman's campaign, and exactly zero from Forgit.  They need to start coming.  Without such things, no one will even know there is another candidate to be elected on Dec.11.  And Wittman wins.  Of course it takes money and effort.  I wholeheartily agree about the DCCC kicking in some $, and also the state party should get heavily behind this race...not sitting on their asses waiting for Wittman's seat to come open.  A cogressional seat is far better than a delegate's.
