Thom Jefferson HS rated #1 by US News

The   Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology has been ranked tops in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.  Also in the rankings:  Fairfax's Langley High landed on the list at No. 37, and Oakton High at 87th.

Congratulations!  One can debate the meaning of such lists, but there's no denying that TJ students have outstanding scores on tests such as the SAT, and the school annually has a large number of Merit Scholars.

Trivia factoid: Delegate Chuck Caputo was once president of the TJ PTA.

I'm a TJ '93 grad (dating myself now), and I firmly believe that TJ was tougher than college, and I went to a very tough university (of course, I also took high school much more seriously and had "other priorities" in college, but there you go).

Nice award for TJHSST and the kids that attend today.

I didn't realize until I moved out of NoVa and got older how lucky and blessed I was to attend FCPS and get a chance to go to a school like TJ. It's a tribute to the community that such a school exists; the students in NoVa are so bright and well educated that we could probably build 2 or 3 more TJs and get similar results. Funny how school privatization fanatics only look at the failing public schools, and not the diamonds produced by public schooling.

Huzzah Langley!

I wish I could offer cool facts about my high school, but the truth is that TJ is a lot cooler and most things having to do with Langley are just snobby.

I'm proud to call TJHSST my alma mater. It is truly amazing that a school can succeed despite a building which is falling apart.
