Democratic Party of Virginia

Over the last two years, Virginia Democrats at the grassroots level have been instrumental in engineering the election of U.S. Senator Jim Webb, taking back the Virginia State Senate and making significant gains in the House of Delegates. Without our volunteers, who have tirelessly devoted their time and energy, the Party would not be where it is today. From local races to statewide contests, YOU have shown up when we've needed you.

Now we need you more than ever. Virginia Democrats are becoming more competitive with each passing cycle, but we can have no success at the state or federal level without success at the local level. That's why I'm asking you to be an active member of the Democratic Party of Virginia family and join your local Democratic committee!

Local committees are on the front lines of our push to turn Virginia BLUE. As a member, you will be a part of the governing body of your local Democratic Party. You will help contact, register and educate voters. You will engage new Democrats. You will help raise money for local, state and federal candidates. And most importantly, you will recruit, nominate and elect candidates.

The next two years are going to be exciting for all Virginia Democrats. We have an opportunity to elect Mark Warner to the U.S. Senate, capture the Commonwealth's 13 electoral votes for the Democratic Presidential nominee, and elect another Governor in 2009. These objectives are not possible without a solid grassroots organization. Therefore, I'm calling on you to join your local Democratic committee today!

The State Party bylaws call for each local committee to conduct caucuses for the election of new members and officers every two years. These reorganization caucuses will take place in each locality between December 1, 2007 and January 9, 2008.

Sincerely,
C. Richard Cranwell
